Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (PCU) - Indiana (Lafayette)
Position Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (PCU)
- Location: Lafayette, Indiana
- Employment Type: Travel/Contract
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Shift: 3x12 or 4x12 hour shifts
- Unit: Mixed Acuity Unit (Medical Surgical and Progressive Care Unit)
- Patient types include oncology, stroke, cardiac, gastrointestinal, pulmonary
- Nurse-to-patient ratios: MS patients 1:5-6, PCU patients 1:3-4
- Patient Care: Includes unstable strokes, BiPAP, Cardizem, Amiodarone, Insulin drips, post heart catheterization, and post pacemaker care
- Experience: Must have solid neurological nursing experience; MS/Telemetry or PCU RN experience accepted
- Locals: Not accepted (travelers only)
Required Certifications
- ACLS (AHA only, RQI acceptable)
- BLS (AHA only, RQI acceptable)
- NIH Stroke Certification (required for ER RNs)
- Additional certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., PALS, NRP, CHEMO, TNCC, EFM)
License Requirements
- Must have Indiana state license, compact license, or Indiana temporary license in hand prior to start
- Pending license accepted if above criteria met
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Indiana
- Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience within the last year (minimum 1 year)
- Neurology experience
- Medical Surgical (Med Surg) and Telemetry experience
- Experience with Cardizem, Amiodarone, Lasix, Insulin drips, and post heart catheterization care
- ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Background and Compliance Requirements
- Background check within 90 days of start, including 7 years of residence/work history, SSN trace, county/state/national checks, education verification
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
- Education verification required (official transcript or diploma)
- Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start
- Physical exam within 12 months of start
- Fit mask test within 12 months of start (specific respirators approved)
- Immunizations and titers required:
- TB test within 1 year
- Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted
- Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted
- Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination required
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap preferred but not required
- Seasonal flu vaccination/documentation required (no declinations accepted)
- Color blind testing required (Ishihara exam or equivalent)
- References: Minimum 2 references from recent employment verified within 2 years; must be from charge, manager, supervisor, or above
- Employment application with full work history and explanations for gaps of 30+ days
- Skills checklist within 12 months of start, completed annually
- Competency exams and medication/pharmacology competency required
Additional Notes
- Locals are not accepted for this position; only travel nurses
- IU Health will not allow Indiana RNs to work at their facilities after 11/30/2024 except for Periop/OR RN’s, Allied, and Ambulatory RN travelers (this position is PCU RN, so this may apply)

This position is ideal for experienced travel RNs with strong neurological and progressive care experience looking for a 13-week contract in a mixed acuity unit with diverse patient populations.
