Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (PCU) - Indiana, Lafayette

Position Details

  • Employment Type: Travel/Contract
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Shift: 3x12 or 4x12 hour shifts
  • Location: Lafayette, Indiana
  • Unit: Mixed Acuity Unit (Medical, PCU, Oncology, Stroke)
  • Patient Population: Medical patients with some PCU level care, oncology, stroke, cardiac, gastrointestinal, pulmonary
  • Patient Ratios: MS patients 1:5-6, PCU patients 1:3-4
  • Drips/Procedures: Cardizem, Amiodarone, Lasix, Insulin, Post Heart Cath, Post Pacemaker, BiPap
  • Charting System: Cerner

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Indiana
  • Minimum 1 year of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience within the last year
  • ACLS issued by American Heart Association
  • BLS issued by American Heart Association
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Experience with Cardizem, Amiodarone, Lasix, Insulin, Post Heart Cath, and Post Pacemaker care
  • Oncology experience
  • Stroke experience
  • Neurology experience
  • Medical-Surgical experience

Candidate Requirements

  • Experience with drips and procedures: Cardizem, Amiodarone, Lasix, Insulin, Post Heart Cath, Post Pacemaker
  • Must have solid neurological nursing experience
  • Locals are NOT accepted for this position
  • Must be able to work in a dynamic mixed acuity environment including oncology and stroke patients

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Valid Driver’s License or Passport (clear copy)
  • Background checks including 7 years of residence/work history, education verification, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG checks
  • Official transcript or diploma (may be pending at start)
  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required
  • Unit competency exam required
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start
  • Fit mask test within 12 months (specific respirators approved)
  • Immunizations and titers required:
    • TB test within 1 year
    • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required (no declinations)
    • Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required (no declinations)
    • Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination
    • Flu vaccination/documentation required (no declinations; exemptions must be approved)
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months
  • References: Minimum 2 from recent employment with appropriate supervisory titles
  • Employment application with full work history and gap explanations
  • Skills checklist within 12 months and annually updated
  • Completion of facility-specific compliance and orientation documents prior to start

Additional Notes

  • Pending license accepted but must have valid Indiana license or compact license before starting
  • IU Health will not allow Indiana RNs to work at their facilities after 11/30/24 except for Periop/OR, Allied, and Ambulatory RN travelers
  • This position is not open to local candidates

This role is ideal for experienced PCU or Telemetry RNs with strong neurological skills who are comfortable managing mixed acuity patients including oncology and stroke cases in a fast-paced acute care setting.
