Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Neuro Ortho Unit MS/Tele Nights

Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Unit: Neuro Ortho unit MS/Tele (Night shift)
  • Start Date: Approximately 3-4 weeks from offer due to compliance tier, with biweekly starts
  • Patient Ratios: 1:6
  • Weekend Requirement: 2 shifts every other weekend
    • Night shift weekends can be Friday/Saturday or Saturday/Sunday depending on rotation
  • Floating: May float within scope to other units except ICU, SDU, and ED
  • Block Schedule: Not accommodated
  • Local Radius Rule: 75 miles
  • Pending License: Accepted
  • Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week (3 shifts of 12 hours)
  • On-call: Not required

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Missouri
  • Minimum 2 years of Med Surg / Telemetry nursing experience, with telemetry experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification

Certifications & Competencies

  • BCLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only
  • NIH Stroke Certification - Required for all nurses, accepted through AHA, Apex, or NIHSS websites
  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam - Required as applicable
  • Unit-specific Competency Exam - Must be updated annually
  • Other certifications may be required depending on unit assignment (e.g., ACLS, PALS, TNCC)

Background & Compliance Requirements

  • Criminal Background Check within 6 months of start (7-year search including statewide and nationwide checks)
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks quarterly
  • Education verification of highest nursing degree required before start
  • Fingerprinting required for certain Illinois assignments (not applicable here)
  • State-specific searches and registries as applicable
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start
  • Drug testing within 1 year of start, must include standard panels and be valid throughout assignment
  • Immunizations and health screenings:
    • Tdap vaccine or declination (expires every 10 years)
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination/declination as required
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption during flu season
  • Fit mask testing (N95) required and must be renewed annually

Additional Notes

  • Weekend shifts are required every other weekend

  • Candidates must comply with all facility-specific policies including dress code, hand hygiene, and confidentiality agreements
  • References: Two professional references required, preferably supervisors within the last year
  • Employment application and unit-specific skills checklist required within 1 year of start
  • No on-call duties

This position is ideal for RNs with at least 2 years of experience in neuro or orthopedic nursing who are comfortable working night shifts and meeting weekend requirements in a fast-paced acute care setting. First-time travel nurses are welcome to apply.
