Job Opportunity: Step Down Registered Nurse

Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit & Shift Details

• Unit: Step Down Unit (Acute Care)
• Shift: Days
• Patient Ratio: 1:4
• Weekend Requirement: 2 shifts every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday for day shift; Friday/Saturday or Saturday/Sunday for night shift depending on rotation)
• Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week (3 shifts of 12 hours)
• Floating: Yes, within scope to lower acuity floors
• Local candidates within 75 miles radius not accepted
• Pending license accepted

Required Experience & Skills

• Minimum 2 years of Stepdown nursing experience
• Stepdown experience within the last year
• Experience with:

  • Ventilator management
  • Titration of vasopressors
  • Insulin drips
  • Trach vents
  • Arterial lines
  • External pacemakers
  • Chest tubes

Required Certifications

• ACLS issued by the American Heart Association
• BLS issued by the American Heart Association
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification

Licensure

• Valid Registered Nurse license in Missouri (pending licenses accepted)

Education

• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Compliance & Background Requirements

• Criminal background check within 6 months, including statewide and nationwide searches
• Education verification of highest nursing degree
• Quarterly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks
• State-specific searches and registries as applicable
• Drug testing within 1 year of start, must remain valid throughout assignment
• Physical exam within 1 year of start
• Fit mask testing (N95) required and must be renewed annually
• Immunizations and health screenings required:

  • Tdap vaccine or declination
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within required timeframe
  • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination/declination
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption during flu season

Additional Requirements

• Unit-specific competency exams and skills checklists required and must be updated annually
• Two professional references required (supervisors preferred)
• Employment application and various facility-specific documents must be completed prior to start
• Candidates must comply with facility policies including dress code, hand hygiene, fingernail policy, and confidentiality agreements
• Orientation modules required and must be completed prior to start

Special Notes

• First-time travel nurses are not accepted for this position
• On-call is not required
• Block scheduling is not accommodated

This position is ideal for experienced Registered Nurses comfortable with critical care step down patients, ventilator management, and complex medication drips, seeking a travel contract in Missouri.
