Job Description
- Unit: Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: Typically 1:5; may flex to 1:6 occasionally, with travelers expected to take extra patients.
- Weekend Requirement: 8 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule period (Friday, Saturday, Sunday combination).
- Floating: Regular floating within scope may be required between departments, units, and facilities as needed.
- Holiday shifts and Charge RN assignments as needed.
- Patient Diagnoses: Medical diagnoses related to pulmonary, wounds, urology, general cardiac, neurological, and renal conditions.
Required Experience & Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse license in Missouri.
- Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, with at least some experience within the last year.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.
- Experience with IV insulin protocols and heparin protocols.
- Central line care and management experience.
- Chest tube management experience (Emerson/Pleur-evac).
- Non-invasive airway management experience.
Schedule & Work Conditions
- No on-call requirement.
- No block scheduling accommodation.
- Local candidates accepted.
- Return to Office (RTO) restrictions: No more than 7 days.
- Guaranteed minimum hours: 3 shifts per 13 weeks.
- Charting system: Epic.
- Scrub color: Navy.
Compliance & Background Requirements
- Government-issued ID required.
- Criminal background check within 6 months of start, including statewide and nationwide searches.
- Quarterly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks.
- Education verification of highest nursing degree required.
- Drug testing within 1 year of start, including a comprehensive panel.
- Physical exam within 1 year of start.
- Fit mask (N95) testing required and must be renewed annually.
- Immunizations and health screenings required:
- Tdap vaccine or declination.
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year.
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination/declination as applicable.
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption during flu season.
Additional Required Documents & Training
- Employment application.
- Unit-specific skills checklist within 1 year of start.
- Medication/pharmacology competency exam.
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam within 12 months of start.
- Color blindness test within 12 months of start.
- Unit-specific competency exam, updated annually.
- Various facility-specific documents including HIPAA acknowledgement, confidentiality form, latex allergy questionnaire, hand hygiene policy, fingernail policy, dress code policy, and regulatory compliance education.
- Orientation modules completed through online learning platform prior to start.
- Professional references: Two required, preferably supervisors within the last year.
Notes
- Floating between units and departments is expected as part of the role.
- Candidates must be able to work required weekend shifts and holiday shifts as assigned.
- This position is at a tertiary care hospital with a Level 1 Trauma designation and recognized Magnet status.
