Job Opportunity: Step-Down Registered Nurse
Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (Step-Down Unit)
- Start Date: Approximately 3-4 weeks from compliance clearance
- Shift Options: 36 or 48 hours per week
- Patient Ratio: 1:5
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- On-Call: Not required
- Floating: Yes, within scope to meet facility needs
- Block Schedule: Not accommodated
- Local Candidates: Not accepted within 75-mile radius
- Pending License: Accepted
- Guaranteed Hours: Yes
- RTO Restrictions: No more than 7 days of RTO per 13-week contract
Required Experience & Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Missouri (pending licenses accepted)
- Minimum 2 years of Step-Down nursing experience
- Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, with PCU experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification
Clinical & Specialty Requirements
- Experience with common surgical procedures including:
- Coronary artery bypass graft (CABG)
- Mitral valve repair or replacement (MVR)
- Aortic valve repair or replacement (AVR)
- Aortic aneurysm repair
- Maze procedure
- Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR)
- Heart transplant
- Left ventricular assist device (LVAD) implant
Facility & Work Environment
- Facility Type: Short Term Acute Care
- Hospital Designations: Magnet & Teaching Hospital, Level I Trauma Center
- Charting System: EPIC
- Uniform Scrub Color: Navy Blue
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Government-issued ID required
- Criminal background check within 6 months, including statewide and nationwide searches
- Quarterly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks
- Education verification of highest nursing degree
- Professional license primary source verification (NURSYS for Missouri)
- Drug testing within 1 year, must include standard panels
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Fit mask testing and annual renewal required
- Immunizations and titers required or declination forms for:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
- TB testing or chest X-ray
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption
- Facility-specific documents including HIPAA acknowledgement, confidentiality form, hand hygiene, dress code, and orientation modules (approx. 16 hours) must be completed prior to start
- Skills checklist and competency exams as applicable (e.g., medication, dysrhythmia/EKG)
Additional Notes
- Candidates must adhere to facility policies including fingernail and hand hygiene policies
- References: Two professional references required, preferably supervisors within the last year
- No prior travel experience explicitly required
