Description

Registered Nurse (PCU/MS/Tele) - Travel/Contract

Location: Saint Joseph, Missouri
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Work in a Long-Term Acute Care Hospital (LTACH) with a high-acuity patient population.
  • Patient types range from med-surg to intubated/trached on ventilators.
  • Patients include post open-heart surgery, cystic fibrosis, vent weaning, pulmonary fibrosis, and sepsis from wounds.
  • Float required; ICU nurses often float to LTACH due to patient acuity.
  • Shift: 3x12 hour day shifts.
  • Every third weekend required (8 weekend shifts per contract).
  • Self-scheduling available.
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:5.
  • Local candidates accepted within a 50-mile radius at a reduced rate.

Required Experience & Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Missouri.
  • Minimum 1 year of recent PCU (Progressive Care Unit) experience within the last year.
  • Med-Surg/Telemetry experience.
  • ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
  • BLS certification.
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Background checks including national criminal, state, county, SSN trace, sex offender, and federal exclusions.
  • Education verification (official transcript or diploma with graduation date).
  • Missouri EDL Search within 30 days of start.
  • Primary source verification of state license and certifications within 30 days of start.
  • Physical exam within the last 12 months (not required annually).
  • Drug screen within 30 days of start (specific panels required).
  • Immunizations/vaccinations or documented immunity/declination for:
    • Measles (Rubeola)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B
    • Varicella
    • Seasonal Flu Vaccine (required for 2025-26 flu season; exemptions require mask wearing).
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year, with additional requirements if positive.
  • Fit mask testing completed onsite at orientation.

Additional Requirements

  • Basic Dysrhythmia exam (pass/fail with minimum 84%, max 2 attempts; ICU has one attempt only).
  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam as applicable.
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) required for Emergency Department RNs prior to start; ICU nurses only if assignment exceeds 1 year.
  • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) training may be required if contract is extended.
  • Completion of facility-specific orientation quizzes and acknowledgment of confidentiality and code of conduct.
  • Two professional references within 3 years of start.
  • Verification of most recent employment and skills checklist required.
