Job Opportunity: Medical Surgical Registered Nurse

Location: Saint Peters, Missouri

Job Details

  • Floating: Yes, within scope to other units including surgical and telemetry

  • Pending License: Accepted
  • Guaranteed Hours: Yes, minimum 3 shifts per 13-week contract

Required Certifications

  • BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - AHA only, with facility-specific renewal policies
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - AHA or AAP approved
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) - as applicable
  • EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) - if applicable
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) or MAB (Management of Assaultive Behavior) - if applicable
  • Other unit-specific certifications may be required or preferred

Required Licenses

  • Valid Registered Nurse license for Missouri
  • Primary source verification required (NURSYS for Missouri)
  • Pending licenses accepted with approval

Compliance and Background Checks

  • Criminal background check within 6 months, including statewide and nationwide searches
  • Quarterly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks
  • Education verification of highest nursing degree required
  • State-specific searches and registries as applicable
  • Fingerprinting required for certain Illinois long-term care or rehab assignments (not applicable here)

Health and Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start
  • Fit mask testing (N95) required and must be renewed annually
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine or declination (Td acceptable for renewals)
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year (two-step PPD or equivalent)
  • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination/declination as per unit requirements
  • Hepatitis B declination required (vaccination not mandatory)
  • Drug screening within 1 year, including a comprehensive panel
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season

Additional Requirements

  • Two professional references required (supervisors preferred)
  • Employment application must be submitted
  • Unit-specific skills checklist required within 1 year of start
  • Completion of facility-specific orientation modules (approx. 16 hours) through online training platform
  • Compliance with facility policies including HIPAA, latex allergy questionnaire, confidentiality, hand hygiene, fingernail, and dress code policies
  • Acknowledgement of float assignment to multiple units/facilities

Work Environment

  • Floating to other units such as surgical and telemetry as needed
  • Ratio and workload consistent with general medical-surgical nursing
  • Orientation includes weekday sessions due to limited weekend classes

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Missouri
  • Minimum 2 years of Medical Surgical nursing experience, with experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Experience in Charge Nurse roles

This position is ideal for a Registered Nurse with at least 2 years of medical-surgical experience who is open to travel assignments, flexible with floating, and able to meet comprehensive compliance and certification requirements. First-time travel nurses are welcome to apply.
