Job Description
- Shift options: 3x12 or 4x12 hour shifts
- Unit: Mixed Acuity Unit with medical patients and some PCU level of care patients
- Patient population includes oncology, stroke, cardiac, gastrointestinal, and pulmonary cases
- Nurse-to-patient ratios:
- Medical-Surgical (MS) patients: 1:5-6
- PCU patients: 1:3-4
- Care includes managing cardizem, amiodarone, insulin drips
- Will care for unstable stroke patients and BiPAP users
- Unit is dynamic, combining medical surgical and progressive care levels
- Solid neurological experience required
- Accepting RNs with experience in MS/Telemetry or PCU
Required Certifications
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or RQI accepted
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or RQI accepted
- NIH Stroke Certification required
- Other certifications may be required depending on unit assignment (e.g., Chemotherapy, TNCC)
License Requirements
- Must have Indiana state license, compact license, or Indiana temporary license in hand prior to start
- Pending license accepted if temporary or compact license is available before start
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Indiana
- Minimum of 1 year of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience within the last year
- Neurology experience
- ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Prior Travel Experience
- No explicit prior travel experience required
Additional Requirements & Information
- Locals are NOT accepted for this assignment
- Background checks required within 30-90 days of start, including criminal, sex offender, and education verification
- Physical exam within 12 months of start date required
- Fit mask test within 12 months of start date required (specific respirator models approved)
- Immunizations and health documents required:
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (preferred but not required)
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted)
- Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination required
- Varicella (positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season
- Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start
- References: Minimum of 2 references from recent employment with supervisory titles required
- Skills checklist and competency exams required annually
- Must complete facility-specific compliance and orientation documents prior to start

Notes
- Effective 11/30/2024, Indiana RNs are generally not allowed to work at this facility except for Perioperative/OR, Allied, and Ambulatory RN travelers (not applicable to this PCU RN role)
- Unit cares for complex patients including oncology and stroke cases with mixed acuity levels
This position is ideal for experienced RNs with strong neurological and progressive care skills looking for a travel contract in Indiana.
