Description
Registered Nurse - PICU (Pediatric Intensive Care Unit) - Travel/Contract
Location: Charlottesville, Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (4 shifts of 12 hours, 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM)
Hours per Week: 48 hours
Schedule: Every other weekend and every other holiday; block scheduling cannot be accommodated or guaranteed
Time Off: Up to 40 hours can be approved for time off
Job Description
- Float pool position covering various pediatric units including PICU, NICU, pediatric med-surg, pediatric PACU, pediatric ED boarders, and postpartum/mother-baby units
- Must have experience in both PICU and NICU and be comfortable working with pediatric patients
- Pediatric PACU experience is highly preferred
- Must adhere to the facility’s float policy
- Epic electronic health record experience required
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Virginia
- Minimum of 1 year of recent Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) experience
- Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) experience
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Proof of identity (government-issued photo ID)
- Background checks including 7-year criminal history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, education verification, and abuse registry search if assigned to specific units
- Official transcript or diploma (BSN preferred; ASN required if no BSN)
- Drug screening (10-panel including marijuana and fentanyl) within 2 months of start, updated annually
- Immunizations and health screenings including:
- Tdap (no exemptions allowed)
- 2-step TB test or Qgold (Chest X-ray if positive)
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (2 vaccines or positive titer required; no declinations accepted for measles)
- Hepatitis B surface antibody titer (positive required or antigen titer if antibody low/negative)
- Varicella (2 vaccines or titer; declination required if titer negative)
- Seasonal flu vaccination (no exemptions or declinations accepted during flu season)
- Physical exam within 12 months attesting ability to meet physical demands of the position
- Completion of facility-specific forms including professional appearance guidelines, release authorization, TB screening, traveler compliance, and fit testing acknowledgment
- References: Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
- Skills checklist and competency exams as applicable
Additional Notes
- Block scheduling is not guaranteed
- Candidates must be comfortable floating to multiple pediatric units
- Orientation includes pass/fail cardiac rhythm assessment for adult inpatient RN positions and mother-baby units; not required for this pediatric float pool role
- Fingerprinting required for behavioral health candidates or those assigned to certain units (not specified for this role)
This position is ideal for experienced pediatric critical care nurses with strong NICU and PICU backgrounds who are flexible and comfortable working across multiple pediatric specialties during night shifts.
