Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Charlottesville, Virginia
Unit: 27-bed General Medicine Unit


Job Details

  • Shift: Day shift, 4 shifts of 12 hours each (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM)
  • Hours per week: 48 hours (option for 36 hours available)
  • Contract length: 13 weeks
  • Schedule: Every other weekend required
  • Time off: Up to 40 hours can be approved for time off; unavailable on Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day
  • Patient population: Variety of disease processes involving Respiratory, Endocrine, Cardiac, Immune/Infectious Disease, and Renal systems
  • Electronic Health Record: Must have Epic experience
  • Float policy: Must adhere to facility float policy

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Virginia
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Minimum of 1 year of Med Surg / Telemetry experience within the last year
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

  • Background Checks:

    • 7-year criminal background check within 60 days of start, updated annually
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated every 30 days
    • Education verification through a third-party vendor; BSN preferred, ASN required if no BSN
    • Fingerprinting may be required depending on unit; facility will notify if needed
    • Child Abuse and Neglect Registry check required only for Behavioral Health or specific units (not applicable here)
  • Health Requirements:

    • Physical exam within 12 months attesting ability to meet job demands
    • Immunizations and titers:
      • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (no exemptions allowed)
      • 2-step TB test or Qgold within required timeframes; chest x-ray if positive
      • Measles, Mumps, Rubella: 2 vaccines or positive titer required (no declinations accepted for Measles)
      • Hepatitis B: Positive surface antibody titer required or antigen titer if antibody low/negative
      • Varicella: 2 vaccines or titer required; declination accepted but will not hold clearance
      • Seasonal flu vaccination required during flu season (no exemptions)
    • Drug screening: 10-panel including marijuana and fentanyl within 2 months of start, updated annually
  • Facility Specific Documents:

    • Professional appearance guidelines acknowledgment
    • Release authorization form
    • TB screening form
    • Traveler compliance acknowledgment
    • Fit testing acknowledgment (if patient-facing role)

Orientation and Competency Testing

  • Pass/Fail cardiac rhythm assessment required during orientation for adult inpatient RN positions
  • Medication/pharmacology competency exam required
  • References: Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluation
  • Employment application and skills checklist must be completed and updated annually

Additional Notes

  • Radiation badges are no longer provided for new candidates; new hires must obtain badges from the facility if required
  • Candidates with latex allergy must complete a specific questionnaire
  • No time off approval on major holidays (Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day)
  • Must be able to work every other weekend
