Job Opportunity: PCU Registered Nurse
Location: Lafayette, Indiana
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit & Patient Population
- Mixed Acuity Unit including medical patients and PCU level of care patients
- Unit specialties: oncology, stroke, cardiac, gastrointestinal, pulmonary
- Patient ratios: MS patients 1:5-6, PCU patients 1:3-4
- Care includes unstable strokes, BiPAP, and drips such as cardizem, amiodarone, insulin
- Dynamic unit combining medical-surgical and progressive care levels
- Must have solid neurological nursing experience
- Accepting RNs with MS/Telemetry or PCU experience
Shift Details
- Night shift
- 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (18:00 to 6:30)
- Total 36 hours per week
Required Certifications
- ACLS (AHA only, RQI acceptable)
- BLS (AHA only, RQI acceptable)
- NIH Stroke Certification (required for stroke unit)
Licensure
- Must have Indiana state, compact, or Indiana temporary RN license prior to start
- Pending license accepted if in hand before start
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Indiana
- Minimum of 1 year of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Solid neurology experience
Background & Compliance Requirements
- Background check within 90 days of start, including 7 years of residence/work history, SSN trace, county/state/national checks, sex offender registry, FACIS Level III
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
- Education verification and transcript/diploma required (may be pending at start)
- Minimum 2 professional references from recent employment, verified within 2 years, with supervisory titles
- Current employment application with full work history and explanations for gaps of 30+ days
- Skills checklist completed within 12 months and annually thereafter
Health & Safety Requirements
- Physical exam within 12 months of start
- Fit mask test within 12 months (approved respirators include specific 3M and Honeywell N95 models)
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months (amphetamines, marijuana, cocaine, opiates, PCP)
- Tuberculosis screening (PPD, QuantiFERON-TB Gold, or T-SPOT) within 1 year
- Immunizations or positive titers required for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Varicella (history not accepted)
- Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required for flu season (9/30 - 3/31)
- Color blind exam (Ishihara or equivalent) with 100% minimum score

- Locals are NOT accepted for this travel contract
- Scrub color: red top, black bottoms
- Charting system: Cerner

- Indiana RN travelers will not be allowed to work past 11/30/24 except for Periop/OR and Allied/Ambulatory RN travelers (not applicable here)
This position offers a challenging and dynamic environment for RNs with neurological and progressive care experience, working night shifts in a mixed acuity unit with oncology and stroke patients.
