Job Opportunity: PCU Registered Nurse

Location: Lafayette, Indiana

Job Description

  • Work on a mixed acuity unit including medical patients and some PCU level of care patients.
  • Unit specialties include oncology, stroke, cardiac, gastrointestinal, and pulmonary care.
  • Patient ratios: MS patients 1:5-6, PCU patients 1:3-4.
  • Care involves managing cardizem, amiodarone, insulin drips, unstable strokes, and BiPAP.
  • Must have solid neurological nursing experience.
  • Accepting RNs with experience in MS/Telemetry or PCU.
  • Shift options: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (Day shift: 6:00 AM – 6:30 PM).

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Indiana
  • Minimum of 1 year of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Neurology experience

Health and Compliance Requirements

  • Physical exam completed within 12 months of start date.
  • Fit mask test within 12 months, using approved respirators (3M N95 models or Honeywell N95). On-site fit testing is limited and must be approved if needed.
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months (including amphetamines, marijuana, cocaine, opiates, PCP).
  • Immunizations and titers required:
    • Rubeola (Measles): Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted.
    • Mumps: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted.
    • Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted.
    • Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted; history of disease not accepted.
    • Hepatitis B: Series, titer, or signed declination required.
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap: Strongly recommended but not required.
  • Tuberculosis screening (PPD, QuantiFERON-TB Gold, or T-SPOT) within 1 year of start date; chest X-ray required if positive.
  • Annual TB questionnaire required.
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (9/30 - 3/31); declinations not accepted.

Background and Documentation

  • Background check required within 90 days of start, including:
    • 7 years of residence/work history verification
    • SSN trace, county and statewide criminal checks
    • National sex offender registry
    • FACIS Level III
    • Education verification (official transcript or diploma)
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start.
  • Current and complete employment application covering 7 years with explanations for gaps over 30 days.
  • Skills checklist completed within 12 months and updated annually.
  • Facility-specific compliance forms and orientation packets must be completed prior to start.

Additional Notes

  • Locals are NOT accepted for this travel contract.
  • Effective 11/30/2024, Indiana RNs are generally not allowed to work at this facility except for Periop/OR and Allied/Ambulatory RN travelers.
  • Scrub color: red top, black bottoms.
