Job Opportunity: Neuro ICU Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: New Haven, Connecticut
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Overview
- Specialty: Registered Nurse – Neuro ICU
- Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
- Patient Ratios: Average 1:2 for both day and night shifts
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Floating: May float within scope to meet facility needs
- Block Scheduling: Not accommodated
- On-call: Not required
- Pending License: Accepted
- Guaranteed Hours: Yes
Required Experience & Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Connecticut
- Neuro ICU experience of at least 2 years, including experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Background Checks:
- 7-year criminal background check within 12 months of start, including SSN trace, counties lived/worked, statewide, national sex offender, national criminal, federal extended, and education verification
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
- Education Verification: Highest level of education must be verified; foreign equivalency reports required for internationally educated candidates
- Employment History: 7 years of work history with no gaps greater than 90 days; verification required for all start dates on/after 8/2/2024
- References: One supervisor reference within the past year required for ICU specialties (charge nurse references not accepted)
- Skills Checklist: Required within 12 months of start
- Attestation of Prior Radiation Exposure: Not applicable for RN Neuro ICU role
Health & Safety Requirements
- Physical Exam: Required within 12 months of start
- Fit Mask Test: Required within 12 months and must be updated annually; candidates must be clean-shaven for fit testing
- Immunizations & Screenings:
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray documentation required
- Annual TB questionnaire required
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination highly preferred for certain specialties (not mandatory for Neuro ICU)
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) immunity via positive titer or vaccination
- Hepatitis B immunity or declination accepted
- Varicella immunity or vaccination
- 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Sept 1 – Mar 31)
- COVID vaccination series preferred but not mandatory
Facility-Specific Training & Competencies
- Medication/Pharmacology Competency Exam: Must pass with 85% within 12 months of start
- Color Blind Testing: Required for all candidates starting on or after 8/2/2024; must score 80% or higher
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam: Required for all ICU RNs including Neuro ICU
- Stroke Education Module and Attestation: Required (except pediatric specialties and NICU)
- CLABSI Prevention Training: Required for RNs
- Preventing Pressure Injury Training: Required for RNs
- Language Services Training: Required for RNs
- CAUTI Education Training: Required (except PICU, NICU, Psychiatry/Behavioral Health)
- Patient Transportation with Oxygen Education: Required for RNs
- Suicide Risk and Environmental Assessment Training: Required for RNs
- Pyxis ES MedStation Training and Attestation: Required for RNs
- Baxter Pump Interoperability Training: Required for RNs
- Patient Bedside Rounding Module: Required for RNs (except OR, Behavioral Health, Ambulatory, ER/ED)
- Ventricular Assist Device Awareness Training: Required for RNs
- AME Blood Administration Module: Required annually for RNs (except Case Managers and Behavioral Health/Psych)
- New Employee Orientation Module: Must be completed by end of first day
- 21st Century Cures Act Module: Required for RNs (except Home Health)
- Chaperone Policy Training: Required for RNs and Allied Health staff (new or updated every 6+ months gap)
- EPIC Testing: Optional but highly encouraged for RNs with prior EPIC experience; onsite training provided if not tested out
- Mobile Heartbeat Alarm Module: Not required for ICU RNs including Neuro ICU
