Unit & Patient Care Information

• Unit: Cardiac Surgery Intermediate (Step Down/PCU)
• Beds: 26
• Patient Ratios: 3:1 or 4:1
• Patient Types: Cardiac/Thoracic surgery, vascular surgery, alcohol withdrawal, respiratory distress, insulin drips
• Equipment: Philips monitors, chest tubes, arterial lines, wound vacs, pacer boxes, pacing wires, drains, EKOS, Nicom, BIPAP, Airvo
• Electronic Medical Record (EMR): EPIC

Job Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation for all age groups
• Utilize the nursing process to care for patients post trauma, surgical interventions, and medical comorbidities
• Coordinate patient care with ancillary departments to optimize outcomes and comfort
• Maintain patient rights and confidentiality
• Maintain professional accountability and evaluate care effectiveness of other caregivers
• Float on a rotational basis to critical care cluster or medical/surgical units as needed

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Missouri
• Minimum of 1 year of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) nursing experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

• Stand and walk most of the shift
• Frequent bending, stooping, lifting, and turning patients with assistance
• Ability to push, pull, and grip up to 50 lbs; pinch up to 15 lbs; minimal kneeling, crouching, and crawling
• Exposure to blood and body fluids is a high-risk factor
• Must be able to work varying schedules and shifts based on patient care needs

Additional Information

• Flu vaccination or approved exemption required for all travelers from November 1 through April 1; declinations are not accepted
• No call requirements
• Weekend hours as required by the facility
• Night shift orientation occurs on day shift and requires availability for the entire week
• Dress code: Black scrubs or facility-logo attire only; no other scrub colors allowed
• Flexible guaranteed hours and blocked scheduling may be approved but must be indicated on submission
• Requests for time off (RTO) must be made on the back end of the assignment; no RTO in the first week; only one holiday RTO allowed per assignment
