Registered Nurse (RN) - Step Down Unit (PCU)
Location: Springfield, Missouri
Employment Type: Travel

Shift: Night (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)

Unit & Patient Care Information
- Unit: Cardiac Surgery Intermediate (Step Down/PCU)
- Beds: 26
- Patient Ratios: 3:1 or 4:1
- Patient Types: Cardiac/Thoracic surgery, vascular surgery, alcohol withdrawal, respiratory distress, insulin drips
- Equipment: Philips monitors, chest tubes, arterial lines, wound vacs, pacer boxes, pacing wires, drains, EKOS, Nicom, BIPAP, Airvo
- Electronic Medical Record (EMR): EPIC
Job Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation for all age groups
- Utilize the nursing process to care for patients post trauma, surgical interventions, and medical comorbidities
- Coordinate patient care with ancillary departments to optimize outcomes and comfort
- Maintain patient rights and confidentiality
- Maintain professional accountability and evaluate care effectiveness of other caregivers
- Float on a rotational basis to critical care cluster or medical/surgical units as needed
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Missouri
- Minimum of 1 year of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) nursing experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Stand and walk most of the shift
- Frequent bending, stooping, lifting, and turning patients with assistance
- Ability to push, pull, and grip up to 50 lbs; pinch up to 15 lbs; minimal kneeling, crouching, and crawling
- Exposure to blood and body fluids is a high-risk factor
- Must be able to work varying schedules and shifts based on patient care needs
Additional Information
- Flu vaccination or approved exemption required for all travelers from November 1 through April 1; declinations are not accepted
- No call requirements
- Weekend hours as required by the facility
- Night shift orientation occurs on day shift and requires availability for the entire week
- Dress code: Black scrubs or facility-logo attire only; no other scrub colors allowed
- Flexible guaranteed hours and blocked scheduling may be approved but must be indicated on submission
- Requests for time off (RTO) must be made on the back end of the assignment; no RTO in the first week; only one holiday RTO allowed per assignment
