Registered Nurse (RN) – MedSurg Unit

Location: Uniontown, Pennsylvania
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit & Patient Population

• Unit: 1W MedSurg (28 all-private beds)
• Patient types: Mainly post-surgical and orthopedic patients
• Patients may include those with pneumonia, dialysis needs, palliative care, hospice, end-of-life care, and low volume inpatient chemotherapy
• COVID-positive patients may be housed on the unit in a designated hallway; nurses must be comfortable caring for both COVID-positive ("dirty") and non-COVID ("clean") patients simultaneously
• Telemetry patients are monitored remotely by a monitor technician on a different floor; no direct telemetry monitors on the unit
• Respiratory support includes Bipap, Cpap, and High Flow oxygen managed by Respiratory Therapy
• IV drips limited to Heparin and possibly Morphine Sulfate for comfort measures; no cardiac drips
• No nurse’s read strips required

Schedule & Shifts

• Night shift: 12-hour shifts (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
• Weekend requirement: Every other weekend (Saturday/Sunday) plus 2 Fridays per schedule, often grouped as Fri/Sat/Sun
• Self-scheduling and blocked schedules allowed if unit needs are met
• Hours per week: 36

Staffing & Ratios

• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:6-7
• Clinical Manager acts as charge nurse and nurse manager Monday through Saturday; takes patients only if census exceeds 24
• Night shift has a resource nurse with a full patient assignment
• Two CNAs on day shifts; no CNAs on nights
• Floating only to other MedSurg units

Orientation & Training

• One shift orientation with a preceptor specific to the floor

Required Certifications & Qualifications

• Current RN license required
• BLS certification required
• Must disclose any professional license hits at time of submission
• Must provide a copy of an unexpired driver’s license
• Must be willing to work within a 50-mile radius

Additional Information

• Scrub color: Navy blue (jackets must also be navy blue if worn)
• Nurses participate in permanent staff holiday rotation

Summary

This is a 13-week night shift RN position on a MedSurg unit caring for a diverse patient population including post-surgical, orthopedic, and medically complex patients. The role requires flexibility to care for both COVID-positive and non-COVID patients, adherence to weekend and holiday scheduling, and collaboration with a clinical manager and resource nurse. Prior travel experience is not specified as required.
