ICU Registered Nurse - Travel/Contract

Location: Bridgeport, Connecticut
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Unit: Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU)
  • Bed Capacity: 10-bed medical ICU
  • Facility Type: Short term acute care hospital, Level II Trauma Center
  • Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (19:00 - 7:30)
  • Schedule: Works every other weekend and floats as needed
  • Charting System: EPIC

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Connecticut
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Minimum 2 years of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience, including experience within the last year
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification or training

Compliance & Background Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check within 12 months of start, updated annually
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
  • Education verification including transcript/diploma; foreign equivalency evaluation required for internationally educated candidates
  • Sex offender search required
  • Employment application with 7-year work history and no gaps greater than 90 days
  • Work history verification for last 7 years (attestations not accepted)
  • References per standard, including supervisor reference for RRT candidates

Competency & Testing Requirements

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (minimum 85% to pass)
  • Color Blind Testing (minimum 80% to pass; required for all candidates starting on/after 8/2/2024)
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam required for ICU and other specified units (not required for NICU or Behavioral Health)
  • Skills Checklist within 12 months of start

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 12 months of start
  • Fit mask test within 12 months of start, updated annually (3M N95 preferred)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray documentation (various accepted tests)
  • Annual TB questionnaire
  • Immunizations or positive titers required for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (or declination within 1 year)
    • Varicella
  • Tdap vaccination highly preferred for Pediatric specialties, Labor and Delivery, and Postpartum (declination accepted)
  • 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (09/01 - 03/31); declinations not allowed
  • COVID vaccination series preferred

  • CAUTI Education Training (except PICU, NICU, Psychiatry/Behavioral Health)
  • Suicide Risk and Environmental Assessment Training
  • Mobile Heartbeat Alarm Module (except ER/ED, Pediatrics, ICU, NICU)
  • Stroke Education (except Pediatric specialties and NICU)
  • CLABSI Prevention for Adult and Pediatric Training
  • Preventing Pressure Injury Training
  • Patient Transportation with Oxygen Education
  • Pyxis ES MedStation Modules
  • Baxter Pump Interoperability Training
  • Patient Bedside Rounding (except OR, Behavioral Health, Ambulatory, ER/ED)
  • Ventricular Assist Device Awareness (except certain hospitals)
  • AME Blood Administration Module (except Case Managers, Behavioral Health/Psych, Home Health) - annual update required
  • New Employee Orientation Module (copy required by end of first day)
  • 21st Century Cures Act Module (required for RNs except Home Health)
  • Chaperone Policy Training (required if gap of 6+ months between assignments or module updated)
  • EPIC Testing (for ER RNs with EPIC experience; optional but highly encouraged)
  • eCart Training Module (not required for Pediatric, Periop/OR, Outpatient, Case Managers, Home Health)

  • Candidate must have photo ID matching legal name on first day
  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position
