Job Opportunity: Step Down Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Boone, North Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Position Overview

• Role: IMCU Float Pool Registered Nurse (Step Down Unit)
• Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
• Weekend Requirement: 2 weekends per month
• Holidays: Required as needed
• Float within skillset as needed; blocked scheduling not guaranteed
• Patient Ratio: 5:1 with goal of 4:1
• Average daily census: 20-24 patients in a 24-bed unit
• Occasional pediatric patients may be assigned; comfort with pediatric care is necessary
• Dress code: Scrubs must be all navy or all white
• Candidates must reside at least 40 miles from the facility

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in North Carolina
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, including experience within the last year
• Minimum 2 years of total travel nursing experience
• Telemetry experience
• Proficiency with Epic electronic health record system
• Certifications:

  • ACLS issued by American Red Cross or American Heart Association
  • BLS issued by American Red Cross or American Heart Association
  • PALS
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

• Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License) for address verification prior to offer acceptance
• NURSYS verification report required
• Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
• Background check: 7-year criminal history check within one year of start, updated annually, covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
• E-Verify or attestation proof required
• Physical exam attesting ability to meet physical demands, updated annually
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year, updated annually
• Drug screening: 10-panel including marijuana, completed within 90 days of start, updated annually
• Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 – Apr 30)
• Immunizations or titers required for: Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella (with specific booster/exemption protocols)

Facility-Specific Requirements

• Passport-style badge photo (shoulders up, front facing, plain background) must be submitted within 48 hours of contract signing
• Completion of self-study orientation and post-test prior to start and after any contract break
• Signed accountability statements and personal data sheet, re-completed after any contract break
• Completion of criminal history investigation form if background check returns a hit

• Candidates must be comfortable with float pool assignments within their skillset
• Local candidates residing within 40 miles will not be accepted
• All required documentation and attestations must be submitted with the application profile
