Registered Nurse - Telemetry (Travel/Contract)

Location: Alton, Illinois
Contract Length: 12 weeks


Job Details

  • Unit: Intermediate Care Unit (Telemetry)
  • Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM)
  • Patient Ratios: 1 nurse to 5-6 patients
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • On-call: Yes
  • Floating: May float within scope to meet facility needs
  • Block scheduling: Not accommodated
  • Local candidates: Not accepted (local radius rule: 75 miles)
  • Return to Office (RTO) restrictions: 7 days
  • Guaranteed hours:
    • 36 hours/week for 3 shifts of 12 hours
    • 48 hours/week for 4 shifts of 12 hours

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois
  • Minimum 1 year of telemetry nursing experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification

Compliance & Background Requirements

  • Government-issued ID required (e.g., driver’s license)
  • Criminal background check within 6 months, including:
    • Statewide searches
    • Nationwide and international (if applicable)
    • Education verification of highest nursing degree
  • Quarterly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks
  • Illinois fingerprinting required for assignments in long-term care or rehab units
  • State-specific exclusion and sanction list checks for Illinois
  • Drug testing within 1 year of start, including a comprehensive panel (amphetamines, benzodiazepines, cocaine, opiates, etc.)
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start
  • Fit mask testing (N95) required and must be renewed annually
  • Immunizations and health screenings:
    • Tdap vaccine or declination (expires every 10 years)
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within required timeframes
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination/declination as applicable
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season (Sept-April)

Facility-Specific Requirements

  • Badge photo (head and shoulders, white background, no obstructions, taken within 6 months)
  • HIPAA Acknowledgement (annual)
  • Latex Allergy Questionnaire (annual)
  • Confidentiality Form (annual)
  • Regulatory Compliance Education and quiz (annual, must score 80% or higher)
  • Hand Hygiene Policy acknowledgment
  • Fingernail Policy acknowledgment (must adhere or risk being sent home)
  • Dress Code Policy acknowledgment
  • Orientation modules completion through online platform (approx. 16 hours, required for all RNs)
  • Employment application and professional references (two required, supervisors preferred)
  • Unit-specific competency and skills checklists (including oncology if applicable)

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must be prepared to complete all required documentation and certifications prior to start.
  • Floating within scope means flexibility to work in different units as needed.
  • Weekend and on-call requirements are mandatory parts of the schedule.
  • Local candidates within 75 miles are not accepted for this travel position.
  • Pending licenses are not accepted; permanent Illinois RN license required.
  • First-time travel nurses are welcome to apply.
