Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical (Travel/Contract)

Location: Saratoga Springs, New York
Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Description

• Work on Medical Surgical unit (a3/C3)
• Night shift schedule with a rotation of 1:5 or 1:6
• Must be willing to float within scope of practice and at unit leader’s discretion
• No local candidates accepted within a 50-mile radius or from specified counties in the region
• Flu vaccine required by December 5th; medical or religious exemptions must be approved two weeks prior to start

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York State
• Minimum 2 years of Medical Surgical nursing experience, including experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• Prior travel nursing experience
• Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Compliance & Certifications

• Must pass advanced EKG/ECG competency exam with a 90% minimum score within 72 hours of contract signing (includes lethal rhythms scored at 100%)
• Child Abuse Mandatory Reporter Training as required by New York State
• Medication/Pharmacology competency exam as applicable
• Color blindness test preferred
• NIH Stroke Certification may be required depending on unit assignment

Health & Immunization Requirements

• Physical exam within 1 year of start date (onsite physical required with specific medical history form)
• Negative TB test (2-step PPD or Quantiferon Gold) within 1 year; chest X-ray if prior positive PPD
• Proof of immunity or vaccination for:

  • Measles (Rubeola)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Varicella
  • Hepatitis B (titer, declination, or vaccine series)
• Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required annually
• 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start (specific lab and test codes required)
• Fit test for N95 mask (3M 1870 quantitative test accepted only)
• Eye exam including Ishihara color deficiency test

Background & Documentation

• Government-issued photo ID (driver’s license or state ID)
• Standard background checks including 7-year search, SS trace, county searches, nationwide, sex offender registry
• Annual EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks
• Facility-specific documents including:

  • FCRA Authorization Release
  • Lift assessment (typically 25 lb, may vary by position)
  • Photo for badge (passport-style)
  • ECG study guide review prior to start
  • Occupational Health forms (TSH Medical History, N95 OSHA questionnaire, PPD questionnaire)
• Completion of online HealthStream orientation modules prior to start date

References

• 2 professional references required for travel, allied, or per diem acute care roles (within 2 years of start)

Additional Notes

• Candidates must not reside in specified local counties around Saratoga Springs
• Flu season protocols may extend until officially declared over by NYS Department of Health or vaccine expiration
• Candidates must be prepared to complete all required testing and documentation within specified timeframes before starting the assignment
