Registered Nurse - Medical Surgical (Travel/Contract)

Location: Saratoga Springs, New York
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Description

• Provide nursing care on a Medical Surgical unit.
• Must be willing to float to other units as needed at manager’s discretion, based on skillset.
• No local candidates allowed within a 50-mile radius or from specified counties in New York.

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in New York.
• Minimum 2 years of Medical Surgical nursing experience, with experience within the last year.
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
• Prior travel nursing experience.

Compliance & Certifications

• Must pass an advanced EKG/ECG competency exam with a minimum 90% score within 72 hours of contract signing (100% on lethal rhythms). Up to 3 attempts allowed with remediation support.
• Child Abuse Mandatory Reporter Training (New York State requirement for RNs).
• Annual background checks including 7-year history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, and HHS/OIG screenings.
• Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start.
• Physical exam within 1 year of start; must complete specific medical history forms during occupational health appointment.
• Fit testing for N95 mask (3M 1870 quantitative test required if done externally).
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year; 2-step PPD required with second step read before start.
• Immunization and titer requirements:

  • Measles (Rubeola): Proof of immunity or 2 MMR doses.
  • Mumps: Proof of immunity or 2 MMR doses.
  • Rubella: Proof of immunity or 1 vaccine.
  • Varicella: Proof of immunity, 2 vaccines, or history of chickenpox.
  • Hepatitis B: Titer, declination, or completed vaccine series.
• Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required by December 5th, 2024. Masking required if exempted.
• Color vision test (Ishihara) required prior to start.

Additional Requirements

• Government-issued photo ID (driver’s license or state ID).
• Passport-style photo for badge with specific guidelines (plain background, no hats/sunglasses).
• Must sign FCRA Authorization Release prior to start.
• Lift assessment (minimum 10-25 lbs depending on position) completed during occupational health appointment.
• Completion of virtual general orientation and clinical testing modules prior to start date.
• References: 2 professional references required for travel/per diem acute care nurses.

• Candidates must not reside within a 50-mile radius or in the following counties: Warren, Washington, Fulton, Montgomery, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Schenectady, Albany, Columbia, Greene, Dutchess, Ulster.
• Facility requires strict adherence to testing and certification deadlines.
• All documentation and certifications must be current and verifiable prior to start.
