Description
Registered Nurse – MS/Telemetry
Location: Rochester, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM)
Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
Floating: Required
Patient Ratio: Must be able to manage a 1:5 to 1:7 patient ratio on MedSurg
Job Description
- Provide nursing care on a combined Acute Stroke and Medical-Surgical Telemetry unit specializing in acute stroke and neurological disorders.
- Care model focuses on evidence-based stroke care during primary prevention and acute phases.
- Responsibilities include cardiac monitoring and emergency response, including interpretation and management of dysrhythmias and use of Rapid Response/Code teams.
- Perform peripheral IV line care and management.
- Respiratory care skills required: nasal cannula, oxygen face masks, portable oxygen tanks, and non-invasive airway management.
- Adhere to isolation precautions and other professional nursing standards.
- Charting must be completed using EPIC electronic health record system.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York
- Minimum 1 year of telemetry nursing experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Experience with EPIC electronic health record system
Health and Compliance Requirements
Candidates must complete the following health-related requirements and lab work within 5 days of contract signing:
- Physical exam (within 1 year, updated annually)
- Fit mask test (annual)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray (within 1 year) or TB questionnaire
- Immunizations or titers for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B
- Varicella
- Drug screening (within 30 days of start)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination (during flu season)
- Snellen eye exam (within 1 year)
- COVID vaccination copy preferred but not required
Background and Documentation
- Government-issued photo ID required.
- 7-year criminal background check (including felony checks) within 3 months of start.
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 3 months and updated monthly.
- Education verification from primary source required.
- Transcript/diploma required if education verification is not on file.
- State license primary source verification and NURSYS verification required within 30 days of start.
- References: 2 references within 3 years required for direct hire candidates.
- Employment application and skills checklist required.
- Work history verification of at least 2 past employments required.

- Tertiary care hospital with 528 staffed beds.
- Acute Stroke Unit is a 39-bed combined unit specializing in acute stroke and neurological disorders.
- Scrub color: Any combination of navy and white.
Additional Notes
- Candidates must be prepared to float as needed.
- The role requires strong clinical skills in telemetry nursing and stroke care.
- Candidates will receive facility-specific onboarding modules prior to start.
- Parking pass required during orientation.
