Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Labor and Delivery)
Location
- Meridian, Idaho
Assignment Details
- Travel assignment length: 13 weeks
- Shift length: 12-hour shifts (7a-7p and 7p-7a)
- Hours per week: 36
- Weekend and holiday shifts as needed based on unit requirements
- No call or standby requirement
- Staff cannot work more than five shifts in a row per hospital policy
- Floating required to like units within the local valley area (approx. 20 minutes travel), with prior notice; true floating to separate locations is rare
Unit Overview
- Unit: Women’s Services, Labor & Delivery (L&D)
- Number of L&D beds: 10
- Number of OR suites for C-sections: 2 (L&D RNs circulate)
- Number of triage beds: 4
- Number of postpartum beds: 10
- Average births per month: About 120
- Nurse staffing ratios follow AWHONN guidelines (primarily 1:1 in L&D and 1:6 couple care in postpartum)
- Charge RN, Resource RN (no patient assignment), and House Supervisor present on each shift
- CNA support 4-5 days/nights per week; unit clerk available 24/7
- OB hospitalist available 24/7; midwives always on call
- Neonatal NP available 24/7; neonatologist on call within 15 minutes
- CRNA anesthesia coverage 24/7
- No Telemetry/Monitor Techs on unit
- Electronic Fetal Monitoring system: GE Connect
- Blue scrubs provided on unit
Patient Population and Care
- Common patient types: laboring patients ≥32 weeks gestation, elective and medical inductions of labor, stable antepartum patients, postpartum patients, well newborns
- Common diagnoses and care include labor and delivery, postpartum care, triage (strongly preferred experience)
- RNs are required to titrate drips (primarily Pitocin per protocol, magnesium sulfate, rarely insulin)
Required Certifications
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
- Stable (taken at least once)
- AWHONN Intermediate or Advanced Fetal Monitoring
Required Experience and Skills
- Labor & Delivery nursing experience required
- Postpartum nursing experience required
- Circulating experience required
- Triage experience strongly preferred
Orientation
- Customized unit/department-specific orientation, typically 4-6 shifts
This position is ideal for experienced Labor and Delivery RNs with required certifications and skills, seeking a 13-week travel assignment with 12-hour shifts in a busy women’s services unit.
