Neuro ICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Specialty: Neuro ICU
  • Shift: Night (4 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 19:00 - 7:30)
  • Patient Ratio: 1:2
  • Guaranteed Hours: Yes, minimum 3 shifts per 13-week contract
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • Floating: May float within scope to meet facility needs
  • Block Schedule: Not accommodated
  • Local Candidates: Not accepted within 75-mile radius
  • Pending License: Accepted
  • Return to Office (RTO) Restrictions: No more than 7 days of RTO per 13-week contract

Required Experience & Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Missouri
  • Minimum 2 years of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience, including at least 1 year within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification

Certifications Required

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support)
  • NIH Stroke Certification (annual update required)
  • Additional stroke education (10 hours total, partially completed during orientation)

Preferred Certifications:

  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
  • BSN degree

Patient Diagnoses & Unit Details

  • Common patient conditions: ischemic strokes (post-thrombectomy, post-tPA), neuromuscular disorders, seizure disorders, CNS infections, hemorrhagic strokes, subdural/epidural hematomas, ICP monitoring (EVDs/bolts), neurotrauma (GSW, MVC, spinal cord injuries)
  • Procedures and management: vasoactive medications, central line/arterial line management, ICP monitoring, CRRT, hypothermia/hyperthermia management, spinal precautions
  • Special equipment used: EVD, bolt

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Government-issued ID (Driver’s License or State ID)
  • Criminal background check within 6 months, including statewide and nationwide searches
  • Quarterly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks
  • Education verification of highest nursing degree
  • State-specific searches and registries as applicable
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start
  • Drug testing within 1 year of start, including a comprehensive panel
  • Fit mask test (annual renewal required)
  • Immunizations and health screenings:
    • Tdap vaccine or declination (expires every 10 years)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray (with yearly questionnaire)
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination/declination as applicable
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption during flu season
  • Facility-specific documents including HIPAA acknowledgement, confidentiality form, latex allergy questionnaire, hand hygiene and fingernail policies, dress code policy, and regulatory compliance education (annual updates required)
  • Photo for badge (head and shoulders, white background, taken within 6 months)
  • Employment application and professional references (two required, supervisors preferred)
  • Unit-specific skills checklist and competency exams, including medication/pharmacology and dysrhythmia/EKG competency (annual updates required)

Additional Notes

  • Orientation includes completion of stroke education hours and unit-specific training modules
  • Parking is available with monthly fees; no charge for straight night shifts parking in employee lots
  • No on-call requirement for this position
