Registered Nurse – Step Down Unit
Location: Saint Joseph, Missouri
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Hours per Week: 36
Facility Highlights
- 352 certified beds
- Level II Trauma Center and Level II Stroke Center
- Multiple hospital and area clinics offering urgent, primary, specialty, and emergency care
- Only tertiary hospital between Kansas City and Omaha
- Charting system: EPIC

Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Missouri
- Minimum 1 year of experience in Progressive Care Unit (PCU) within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
Health and Safety Requirements
- Physical exam within the last 12 months (not required annually)
- Fit testing completed onsite at orientation
- Negative TB test (PPD, Q-Gold, or T-SPOT) within 1 year, updated annually; chest x-ray and questionnaire required if positive TB history
- Immunizations or documented immunity/declination for:
- Measles (Rubeola)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (vaccination series, titer, or declination)
- Varicella
- Seasonal flu vaccination required during flu season or approved medical/religious exemption with mask mandate
- Drug screening within 30 days of start (not required annually) covering multiple substances
Background and Documentation
- Background check within 30 days of start including:
- National criminal check
- State and county searches for 10 years of all addresses and aliases
- SSN trace with aliases
- National sex offender registry
- FACIS Level 3
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks
- Education verification with official transcript or diploma including graduation date
- Missouri EDL search within 30 days of start
- Employment application, skills checklist, and verification of most recent employer required
- Two professional references within 3 years of start
Facility-Specific Requirements
- Review and sign confidentiality agreement and code of conduct
- Complete demographic form prior to start
- Complete agency nurse orientation quiz with a minimum score of 84% before starting
- AVADE training (onsite skills validation) required if extending beyond initial contract in certain units (stepdown, ICU, medical surgical, etc.)
- Pass/fail testing and remediation process for EKG exam as applicable
Additional Notes
- Locals accepted at a reduced rate within a 50-mile radius
- Prior travel experience is not specified as required for this position
This position offers an opportunity to work nights in a stepdown unit at a Level II Trauma and Stroke Center with a strong focus on certifications, competencies, and compliance with health and safety standards.
