Registered Nurse (NICU) - Travel Assignment

Location: Nampa, Idaho
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights (7pm - 7am)
Hours: 12-hour shifts, approximately 36 hours per week

Unit and Patient Population

• Unit: Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), Level II
• Beds: 8 private NICU suites (one patient per suite)
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:3
• Common Patient Diagnoses:

  • Neonates ≥ 32 weeks gestation
  • Respiratory distress
  • Feeders and growers
  • Hypoglycemia
  • Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS) scoring for opioid withdrawal

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Idaho
• Minimum 3 years of NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care) nursing experience, including experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Certifications:

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
  • STABLE certification

Clinical and Operational Details

• No requirement for RNs to titrate drips
• Neonatal NP available 24/7 onsite
• Respiratory equipment limited to NICU CPAP; ventilated patients transferred to Level III NICU
• Continuous centralized monitoring system in use
• CNAs support both NICU and Labor/Delivery/Postpartum (LDRP) units
• Charge nurse oversees entire department (LDRP and NICU)
• Resource nurse available for NICU admissions, deliveries, and high-risk situations (e.g., meconium, shoulder dystocia)
• Floating required to multiple regional sites within approximately 50 miles, including NICU or sitter roles
• No call or standby requirements
• No minimum weekend or holiday shift requirements for travelers; holiday shifts assigned based on unit needs

Orientation and Policies

• Unit-specific orientation: 3 days
• Compliance and electronic health record (EPIC Curio) training must be completed prior to start
• Hospital-issued scrubs required; must change in and out at start/end of shift
• No fingernail polish, acrylic, or gel nails allowed due to NICU infection control policies
• Travel nurses working as a duo must have separate transportation due to floating between sites

Additional Notes

• Scheduling: Travelers fill gaps in core staff schedule; no guaranteed block scheduling or working 6 consecutive shifts
• Radius rule: Candidates must live outside a 50-mile radius from the facility to be eligible for this travel assignment
