Description
Registered Nurse (MS/Telemetry) - Travel/Contract
Location: Rochester, New York
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM - 7:00 AM)
Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
Experience Required: Minimum 1 year in specialty
Prior Travel Experience: Not required (first-time travelers accepted)
Local Radius: Must live within 75 miles of the facility
Job Description
- Provide nursing care on a combined Acute Stroke and Medical-Surgical Telemetry unit specializing in acute stroke and neurological disorders.
- Manage patient acuity with a 1:5 to 1:7 patient ratio.
- Responsibilities include cardiac monitoring and emergency response (interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, use of rapid response/code teams).
- Perform IV therapy and phlebotomy (peripheral line care/management).
- Provide respiratory support including nasal cannula, oxygen face masks, portable oxygen tanks, and non-invasive airway management.
- Adhere to isolation precautions and evidence-based stroke care protocols.
- Charting and documentation must be completed using EPIC electronic health record system.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York
- Minimum 1 year of Med Surg / Telemetry nursing experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- ACLS certification
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Experience with EPIC electronic health record system

- Tertiary care hospital with 528 staffed beds.
- Acute Stroke Unit is a 39-bed combined unit focusing on stroke and neurological care.
- Unit practices adjustable acuity delivery of care model for stroke prevention and acute care.
Health & Compliance Requirements
Candidates must complete the following health-related requirements and lab work within 5 days of contract signing:
- Physical exam (within 1 year, updated annually)
- Fit mask test (annual)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray (within 1 year)
- Immunizations or positive titers for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B
- Varicella
- Drug screening (within 30 days of start)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination (required during flu season)
- Snellen eye exam (within 1 year)
- COVID vaccination copy preferred but not required
Background & Verification Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID required.
- 7-year criminal background check (including felony checks) within 3 months of start.
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 3 months and updated monthly.
- Education verification from primary source required (transcripts/diplomas if no prior verification).
- Employment verification of at least 2 past employments.
- References (2 within 3 years) required for direct hire candidates.
- Primary source verification of New York RN license within 30 days of start.
- Competency exams and medication/pharmacology tests as required by specialty.
- Color blindness testing required once.
- Facility-specific documents including photo for badge and completion of orientation safety manual.
Additional Notes
- Candidates must be able to work every other weekend.
- Locals must reside within a 75-mile radius of the facility.
- First-time travel nurses are accepted for this assignment.
- The role requires night shift availability with 3 twelve-hour shifts per week.
