Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse – PCU (Progressive Care Unit)

Location: Kansas City, Missouri
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (18:45 – 7:15)
  • Patient Ratio: 1 nurse to 5 patients
  • Weekend Requirement: 8 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule period (Friday/Saturday/Sunday combination)
  • Floating: Regular floating required within scope to various units including Emergency Department inpatient holding and all MSI units based on need
  • Holiday Shifts & Charge RN Assignments: As needed
  • Block Scheduling: Not accommodated
  • Local Candidates: Accepted
  • Pending License: Not accepted
  • Return to Office (RTO) Restrictions: No more than 7 days
  • Guaranteed Hours: Minimum 3 shifts per 13 weeks

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Missouri
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in Progressive Care Unit (PCU), with PCU experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Certifications:
    • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by the American Heart Association
    • National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification

Background and Compliance Requirements

  • Criminal background check within 6 months of start (7-year search including statewide, nationwide, sex offender, and international if applicable)
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks run quarterly
  • Education verification of highest nursing degree required before start
  • State-specific searches and registries as applicable (Missouri and Illinois)
  • Fingerprinting required for assignments involving long-term care or rehab units in Illinois
  • Drug testing within 1 year of start, must include specific panels and remain valid throughout assignment
  • Two professional references required (supervisors preferred)
  • Employment application and unit-specific skills checklist required within 1 year of start

Health and Safety Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start
  • Fit mask (N95) testing required annually; must be able to pass fit test or complete quantitative testing if failed
  • Immunizations and titers required or declination forms for:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (Tdap required every 10 years)
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 12 months (2-step PPD or equivalent)
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella (positive titer, vaccination, or medical statement required; boosters or declination allowed except in certain units)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season (Sept 30 – April 1)
  • Hepatitis B declination required (vaccination not mandatory)

Facility-Specific Requirements

  • Government-issued ID required
  • Badge photo required (head and shoulders, white background, no obstructions, taken within 6 months)
  • Completion of facility-specific orientation modules and regulatory compliance education annually via online platform
  • Review and sign facility policies including HIPAA, latex allergy, confidentiality, hand hygiene, fingernail, and dress code policies prior to start
  • Annual completion of required training quizzes with minimum passing scores

Additional Notes

  • First-time travelers accepted
  • On-call not required
  • Must be able to float to meet facility needs within scope of practice
  • Candidates must comply with all documentation and credentialing requirements prior to start to ensure clearance

This position offers an opportunity to work in a progressive care unit with a diverse patient population requiring advanced cardiac and telemetry nursing skills in a fast-paced hospital environment.
