Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Chicago, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Day shift, 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM (5 days/week, 8 hours/day)


Job Description

  • Provide Level 1 Trauma care as an RN, including scrubbing and circulating in the OR.
  • Required experience in Orthopedics, Orthopedic Trauma, Vascular, Urology, and General Surgery.
  • Preferred experience in Neurosurgery (cranial and spine), Open Heart/Thoracic, Ophthalmology, ENT, Bariatric, and Gynecology.
  • On-call requirement: One 12-hour shift per month on a weekend (Saturday or Sunday), either 7 AM–7 PM or 7 PM–7 AM. No weekday call.
  • Return to Office (RTO) policy: Maximum 5 days off with no more than 2 consecutive days off; no days off before/after holidays or on weekends.
  • Local candidates preferred within a 75-mile radius.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Minimum 1 year of Operating Room (OR) experience, with OR experience within the last year.
  • Experience working with Level 1 Trauma patients.
  • Experience in Orthopedics, Orthopedic Trauma, Vascular Surgery, and Urology.
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association.

Experience Requirements

  • Must have Level 1 Trauma RN experience with OR skills (scrubbing and circulating).
  • Experience in Orthopedics, Orthopedic Trauma, Vascular, Urology, and General Surgery required.
  • Preferred experience in Neurosurgery, Open Heart/Thoracic, Ophthalmology, ENT, Bariatric, and Gynecology.

Onboarding and Compliance Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID (driver’s license or state ID).
  • Background check within 12 months covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years, including SSN trace and national sex offender search. Illinois fingerprinting required if indicated.
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start.
  • Physical exam within 12 months, signed by PA, NP, DO, or MD.
  • Negative TB test (QGold or TSPOT) within 12 months; PPDs not accepted after 12/15/2025. Chest X-ray and TB questionnaire if history positive.
  • Immunizations/vaccinations:
    • Tdap within 10 years or signed declination.
    • 2 MMR vaccines or positive titers for Rubeola, Mumps, Rubella (boosters if low titer).
    • Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination.
    • Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer (booster if low titer).
    • Seasonal flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption during flu season (Oct 1 – May 4).
  • Drug screening: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 90 days of start; marijuana not required.
  • Fit mask test (N95 or equivalent) within 1 year; medical or religious exemptions require approval for onsite PAPR use.

Additional Requirements

  • Annual completion of skills checklist and competency exams including medication/pharmacology and color blindness testing (for starts on/after specified dates).
  • Must complete facility-specific forms with legal name and signatures prior to start.
  • Must be eligible to work in Illinois healthcare system registry if applicable (not required for RNs).

  • Operating Room setting with trauma and surgical cases.
  • Strict adherence to call and time-off policies.
  • Collaboration with multidisciplinary teams in a high-acuity trauma center environment.
