Location: Rochester, New York

Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)

Job Description

• Provide nursing care on a Medical-Surgical/Telemetry unit.
• Mandatory competency in phlebotomy and IV placement.
• Patient ratios:

  • Day/Evening: 5:1 (stretch 6-7)
  • Night: 6-7:1 (stretch 8-10 if staff calls in)
• Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) assist with vital signs, blood glucose checks, EKGs, and activities of daily living.
• Floating within scope to similar units may be required.
• Weekend requirement: Every other weekend (EOW).
• Block scheduling may be accommodated but is not guaranteed.
• No local candidates accepted within a 75-mile radius.
• No pending licenses accepted.
• Return to Office (RTO) restrictions: Maximum 1 week allowed during contract.

Patient Population / Diagnoses

• Osteoarthritis of any joints
• Fractures of any bones

Special Skills / Requirements

• Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
• IV insulin protocols
• Feeding tube care and management
• Blood product administration
• Peripheral line care/management
• Heparin protocols
• Management (no titration) of cardiac drips
• Patient-controlled analgesia (PCA)
• Ortho trauma and total joint replacements
• Chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac)
• External CPAP/BIPAP
• High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC)
• Tracheostomy management
• Wound care and wound vac management

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in New York
• Minimum 1 year of Med Surg / Telemetry nursing experience within the last year
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Competency in phlebotomy

• Health-related requirements and lab work must be completed within 5 days of contract signing.
• Education verification required from primary source; hard copies of degrees/transcripts not accepted.
• References required for agency direct hires (2 references within 3 years).
• Employment application and work history verification required.
• Fingerprinting and additional background checks may be required for certain units (e.g., Mental Health, Behavioral Health, Home Health Aide, Long Term Care).
