Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Clinton, Maryland
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 19:00 - 7:30)
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Provide nursing care in a high-risk Labor and Delivery unit.
  • Must have experience with high-risk L&D patients.
  • Responsibilities include circulating, fetal heart monitoring (FHM), precepting, and/or charge nurse duties.
  • Triage experience is preferred.
  • Float within skillset to related areas such as Mom/Baby and postpartum.
  • Call requirement: 36 hours in 6 weeks or 12 hours per pay period; must be on premises within 45 minutes of call.
  • Work every other weekend and every other holiday.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Maryland.
  • Minimum 2 years of Labor and Delivery nursing experience, including experience within the last year.
  • Completion of at least one prior travel assignment.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Certifications:
    • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
    • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP).
    • Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM).
  • Experience working with high-risk Labor and Delivery patients.
  • Experience in charge nurse roles.
  • Skills in circulating and fetal heart monitoring (FHM).

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license if driving is an essential job function.
  • Complete I9/E-Verify attestation prior to start.
  • Criminal background check within 90 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years.
  • Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks prior to and during employment.
  • Education verification of highest degree required by the position.
  • Drug screen within 90 days of start (excluding marijuana), covering multiple substances.
  • Annual physical exam confirming ability to perform work without accommodations and free from communicable disease.
  • Immunization and health documentation including:
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (with additional requirements if history of TB).
    • Tdap vaccine within last 10 years preferred.
    • Documentation of immunity or vaccination for Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR), Varicella, and Hepatitis B (titer, series, or declination).
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption during flu season.
  • Annual competency exams including medication/pharmacology and dysrhythmia/EKG competency (80% passing score required).
  • Color blindness testing (online or in-person).
  • Annual orientation safety manual acknowledgement.

References and Work History

  • Two positive supervisory references supporting at least 2 years of experience within the last 3 years, including one from the most recent assignment.
  • Complete 7 years of work history with no gaps, including education, employment, license, and contact information.

Additional Notes

  • Facility-specific modules (SITELS) must be completed prior to start date; these may take several hours.
  • Photo for badge must meet specific criteria (clear, centered, no glare, solid background).
  • Call and float requirements necessitate flexibility and proximity to the facility.

This position is ideal for experienced Labor and Delivery RNs with prior travel experience seeking a night shift travel contract in Maryland.
