Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse

Location: Knoxville, Tennessee
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Unit: Labor & Delivery
  • Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM)
  • Hours per Week: 36
  • Nurse-Patient Ratio: 1:2
  • On-Call: 36 hours every 6 weeks
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (approximately 2 weekends per month)
  • Float Requirement: Yes

Required Certifications

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or ARC accepted
  • AWHONN (Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses) - Intermediate or Advanced level required for Labor & Delivery
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or ARC accepted
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) Certification
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
  • EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) - AWHONN or NCC certification required for L&D nurses
  • Additional certifications may be required depending on unit specifics; verify before assignment start

Note: Actual certificates must be uploaded; screenshots or photos are not accepted. Certifications must not expire within 45 days of assignment start date. Renewals must be uploaded 5 days prior to expiration.


Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Tennessee, active and in good standing
  • Minimum 1 year of Labor and Delivery nursing experience, with experience within the last year
  • One completed travel nursing assignment
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • ACLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • AWHONN certification
  • BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • NIHSS certification
  • NRP certification

Background and Compliance Requirements

  • Background check completed within 45 days of start date, including:
    • 7-year SSN trace with complete address history
    • Alias verification if applicable
    • National and state sex offender registries
    • Federal and state criminal searches
  • Drug screening within 45 days of start, including a comprehensive panel of substances
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start, signed by MD, DO, NP, APRN, or PA confirming fitness for duty
  • Negative TB test (QGold or Skin Test) within 1 year of start; chest x-ray if prior positive TB
  • Immunization and health documentation:
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) - 2 vaccines or positive titer required
    • Hepatitis B series, titer, or declination
    • Varicella - 2 vaccines or positive titer
    • Seasonal Flu vaccine required for starts on or after 9/8/2025 (no declinations accepted; exemptions only for medical or religious reasons with proper documentation)
  • Color Blind Testing within 12 months prior to start (Ishihara test accepted)
  • Competency exams including medication/pharmacology, dysrhythmia/EKG (except L&D), and core competencies with minimum 80% pass rate, updated annually

Additional Requirements

  • Photo for badge: passport-style, solid background, no filters or facial piercings
  • Employment application with 7-year work history, no unexplained gaps over 30 days
  • Two supervisory references from employers within the last 3 years
  • Skills checklist specific to Labor & Delivery unit, updated within the last year
  • Utility bill or lease/mortgage statement in candidate’s name with address at least 75 miles from contracted facility

Important Policies

  • Time off requests during holidays will not be accommodated. Holidays include but are not limited to: Valentine’s Day, Easter, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Day. Holiday time off may be discussed onsite after arrival.

This position offers a structured orientation and requires adherence to strict compliance and certification standards to ensure quality patient care in the Labor & Delivery unit.
