Job Opportunity: Emergency Room Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Springfield, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse – Emergency Department (ED)
  • Shift: Evening shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (15:00–03:30)
  • Average Daily Census: 175 patients in a 56-bed ED
  • Facility Type: Acute Care Hospital, Level I Trauma Center, Magnet designated
  • Charting System: Cerner
  • Scrub Color: Any solid color allowed
  • Parking: Permit required, no cost

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Illinois
  • Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) nursing experience, including experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Experience working with both adult and pediatric patients
  • Certifications:
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by American Heart Association
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
    • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
  • Clinical skills and competencies:
    • Management of dysrhythmias and patients with multisystem organ dysfunction/failure
    • Continuous IV sedation and procedural sedation administration
    • Chest tube insertion and management
    • Intubation
  • Experience with Cerner electronic medical record system

Work Schedule & Requirements

  • Weekend Work: Every other weekend required
  • On-Call: Not required
  • Floating: No floating outside scope of practice
  • Block Scheduling: Possible with manager approval
  • Locals Accepted: Yes, no radius restrictions
  • Return to Office (RTO) Restrictions: Ideally no more than 5 days

Health & Compliance Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by an appropriate healthcare provider, confirming good physical and mental health and ability to perform job functions
  • Fit mask test required (specific mask types accepted)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
  • Required immunizations or proof of immunity (MMR, Hepatitis B, Varicella) or signed declinations
  • 9-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually
  • Background checks including criminal, sex offender, and other state-specific searches within 30 days of start
  • Fingerprinting and Illinois Healthcare Worker Registry results required for clinical candidates without an IL license
  • Competency exam required for all clinical candidates
  • Professional references: 2 required

  • Valid US Driver’s License or State ID
  • Education verification (degree/transcript)
  • Photo for badge (color, plain background)
  • Signed code of conduct and parking permit forms
  • Completion of required computer-based learning modules before orientation
  • Skills checklist

Additional Notes

  • First-time travel nurses accepted
  • Client may cancel up to 36 hours per 13-week assignment without pay obligation
  • No on-call shifts count as call-offs if used in lieu of cancellation

This position offers an opportunity to work in a high-volume, Level I trauma ED with a diverse patient population requiring advanced emergency nursing skills.
