Registered Nurse (RN) – MedSurg Unit

Location: Uniontown, Pennsylvania
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit & Patient Population

• Unit: 1W MedSurg (28 all-private beds)
• Patient types: Mainly post-surgical and orthopedic patients
• Patients may include those with pneumonia, dialysis needs, palliative care, hospice, end-of-life care, and low volume inpatient chemotherapy (administered by director/manager)
• COVID patients may be housed on the unit in a designated "dirty" hallway; nurses must be comfortable caring for both "clean" and "dirty" patients simultaneously
• Telemetry patients monitored remotely by a monitor technician (no direct monitors on unit)

Work Schedule & Shifts

• Shift length: 12-hour shifts (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM or 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
• Scheduled hours per week: 36
• Weekend requirement: Every other weekend (Saturday/Sunday) plus 2 Fridays per schedule (often grouped Fri-Sat-Sun)
• Self-scheduling and blocked schedules allowed if unit needs are met

Staffing & Ratios

• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:6-7
• Clinical Manager acts as charge nurse and nurse manager Monday through Saturday (takes patients only if census >24)
• Nights have a resource nurse with a full patient assignment
• Two CNAs on day shifts; no CNAs on night shifts
• Floating only to other MedSurg units

Orientation & Training

• One shift orientation with a preceptor specific to the floor

Certifications & Licenses

• BLS certification required
• Must provide a copy of an unexpired driver’s license with submission
• Any professional license issues must be disclosed at time of submission

Clinical Details

• No nurse’s read strips required
• IV drips limited to Heparin and possibly morphine sulfate for comfort measures; no cardiac drips
• Respiratory support includes Bipap, Cpap, and High Flow oxygen managed by Respiratory Therapy
• Scrub color: Navy blue (jackets must also be navy blue if worn)

Additional Notes

• Must be comfortable working within a 50-mile radius rule
• Work holidays as part of permanent staff holiday rotation
