Job Opportunity: Home Health Registered Nurse
Location: Newport News, Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Shift: Day (Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM)
Hours: 40 hours per week (5 days x 8 hours)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Work schedule includes Monday through Friday with every third weekend required.
- Locals are eligible to apply at the same rate.
- Must have a minimum of one recent year of home health nursing experience.
- Experience with OASIS (Outcome and Assessment Information Set) documentation is required.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Virginia.
- Minimum of 1 year of recent experience in a Home Health setting.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross (online CPR not accepted).
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Experience with OASIS (Outcome and Assessment Information Set) documentation.
Background and Compliance Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check covering all locations lived/worked in the past 7 years, updated annually.
- Driving record from the state of license issuance required, with a minimum of 3 years driving experience.
- Virginia State Police National Criminal Background Check fingerprint results required.
- Drug screen within the last 12 months.
- Physical exam within the last 12 months.
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within the last 12 months; if positive TB test, additional clearance documentation required.
- Required immunizations or proof of immunity:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Varicella
- Hepatitis B (series, titer, or facility-specific declination)
- Seasonal flu vaccination required during flu season (October 1 – March 31) unless approved medical or religious exemption is granted.
- COVID vaccine series preferred; if no vaccine, facility-specific declination form required.
Facility-Specific Requirements
- Photo for badge must meet specific guidelines (recent, professional attire, neutral background, no hats/headphones, clear face visibility).
- Must review and sign facility policies including:
- Confidentiality Agreement
- Scrub Colors Policy
- Safety Brochure
- Dress Code Policy
- Drug-Free Policy
- Hand Washing Hygiene Policy
- Lifelong Care, Home Health, and Hospice positions require sworn disclosure and Virginia State Police check updated annually.
- TB LTBI clearance letter signed by a physician required if TB positive.
- Vaccination exemption requests must be approved by the facility.
Additional Notes
- Orientation includes pass/fail computer-based learning (CBL) tests; multiple attempts allowed.
- Candidates must complete all required documentation and compliance items at least 5 days prior to start date.
- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position.
