Job Opportunity: CVOR Registered Nurse
Location: Springfield, Illinois
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Shift: Day shift, 4 days per week, 10-hour shifts (6:15 AM – 4:45 PM)
- Average Daily Census: 10 patients, 4 rooms/beds
- Work Setting: Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR), General Operating Room
- Trauma Level: Level I trauma center
- Facility Type: Acute Care Hospital, Magnet recognized, Teaching hospital
- Charting System: Cerner
- Parking: Permit required, no cost
Required Experience & Skills
- Minimum 3 years of nursing experience required, including trauma or Medical Operating Room (MOR) experience preferred
- Teaching hospital experience and Level II trauma experience required
- Cardiovascular surgical skills including but not limited to:
- Aortic aneurysm repair
- Atrial septal defect repair (adult)
- Coronary artery bypass graft (CABG)
- ECMO, femoral cannulation, intra-aortic balloon pump, LVAD
- MAZE procedure, mitral valve replacement, PDA, pericardial window, TAVR
- Scrub cardiovascular surgery
- Vascular surgery skills including:
- Abdominal aortic aneurysm repair
- Arteriovenous fistula repair
- Atherectomy, carotid endarterectomy, endovascular aneurysm repair
- Femoral popliteal bypass graft, vein stripping
- Scrub vascular surgery
- Thoracic surgery skills including:
- Laparoscopic assisted cases, lobe resection, mediastinoscopy, thoracotomy, VATS
- Scrub thoracic surgery
- Endoscopic procedure skills including:
- Bronchoscopy, EGD, PEG tube placement/exchange
- Scrub endoscopic surgery
- Whipple procedure experience required
- Professional knowledge: laser safety, specimen handling/labeling, universal protocol (time out) procedure
Schedule & On-Call Requirements
- Rotational on-call on weekends
- At least one night of call per week, plus one or two late nights per week
- Floating within scope of practice may be required to meet facility needs
- Open to block schedule accommodations (discuss with manager)
Licensure & Certifications
- Must have an active Illinois RN license or be in the application process to apply
- BLS certification required
- ACLS certification preferred (AHA or RQI acceptable)
Additional Requirements
- Locals accepted with no radius restrictions
- Return-to-Office (RTO) restrictions ideally no more than 5 days
- Scrub color provided for this role
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Valid/current US Driver’s License or State ID
- Background checks covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years, including:
- SSN trace, counties, states, national criminal, sex offender, FACIS Level 3
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days prior to start
- Education verification (initial degree verification required)
- Illinois-specific searches including:
- Department of Corrections inmate search
- Most Wanted search
- State Police Murderer and Violent Offender Against Youth Registry
- Fingerprinting through Illinois Health Care Worker Registry (if no IL license)
- Competency exam required for all clinical candidates
- Badge photo (color, plain background) required before start
- Code of Conduct acknowledgment within 7 days of contract signing
- Flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption required annually by November 30
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by an MD, NP, PA, or equivalent
- Fit mask test required (3M 1860 small/regular, 1870, or 1870+ masks acceptable)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year of start
- Immunizations or titers required for:
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (2 MMR vaccines or positive titer)
- Hepatitis B vaccine series or positive titer
- Varicella vaccine or positive titer
- 9-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
- References: 2 professional references required
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Illinois
- Minimum 3 years of Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) experience, including CVOR experience within the last year
- Experience working with Level II trauma patients
- Operating Room (OR) experience required
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

- First-time travel nurses accepted
- Guaranteed hours subject to client call-off policy (up to 36 hours per 13-week assignment without pay)
- Candidate must be prepared for rotational call and possible floating duties within scope
- Facility accommodates latex allergies
This role is ideal for experienced CVOR RNs with strong cardiovascular and vascular surgical skills seeking a travel contract in a Level I trauma, Magnet-recognized acute care hospital.
