Description

Registered Nurse (RN) – Clinical Support Unit (L&D/MB/Antepartum)

Location: Boise, Idaho
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights (06:45 PM – 07:30 AM)
Hours: 12-hour shifts, 48 hours per week
Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
Holiday Requirement: Occasional holiday shifts possible
Call/Standby: None


Unit and Float Information

  • Float pool limited to women’s services: antepartum, labor & delivery (L&D), and postpartum units.
  • Float assignments can be at any facility within the region (Boise, Meridian, Nampa).
  • Travelers are first to float and may float mid-shift as needed.
  • Assignments communicated via app about 1 hour before shift start.

Patient Population and Care

  • Antepartum patients: gestation 22+ weeks.
  • L&D patients include high-risk cases such as PPROM, placenta previa, preeclampsia, diabetes, twins.
  • Postpartum care includes full couplet assignments (mom and baby), car seat studies, and independent transition if NICU unavailable.
  • No requirement to circulate for C-sections or recovery RN duties.

Required Certifications

  • ACLS (AHA or ARC)
  • BLS (AHA or ARC)
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
  • PALS
  • STABLE Certification
  • AWHONN fetal monitoring classes (required for permanent staff)

Experience and Skills

  • Minimum 3+ years of experience in Labor & Delivery, Postpartum, and Antepartum nursing.
  • No first-time travelers accepted.
  • Prefer candidates with ability to circulate in the OR.
  • Must be an excellent communicator, understand chain of command, and know how to use resources effectively.
  • RNs are required to titrate drips (e.g., Pitocin, insulin, magnesium).

Staffing and Support

  • Charge nurse present on all units.
  • Surgical techs available occasionally, less frequent at night.
  • Respiratory therapy support limited to PPV only; NICU resource available for deliveries.
  • OB laborist and neonatologist coverage 24/7 at one location with rapid access.
  • Anesthesia provided by designated CRNA 24/7.
  • No telemetry techs on units; telemetry techs read cardiac and fetal strips when patients are on telemetry.

Orientation and Training

  • Orientation includes 4-5 shifts across multiple sites: Nampa (L&D/Postpartum), Meridian, Boise (antepartum partial), covering L&D, antepartum, and OR areas.
  • Scrubs are provided.

Work Environment and Culture

  • Facilities have easy access and safe parking.
  • Meridian location is central to all sites.
  • Managers are not physically on site but leadership is available for support.
  • Travelers must use chain of command, communicate proactively, and advocate for patients.

Summary

This is a 13-week night shift RN position in a float pool covering women’s services (antepartum, labor & delivery, postpartum) with a strong emphasis on experience in these areas, required certifications, and the ability to float between multiple regional facilities. The role requires excellent communication skills, clinical expertise in high-risk OB care, and flexibility to float mid-shift as needed.
