Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse

Location: Knoxville, Tennessee
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Unit: Labor & Delivery
  • Shift: Night (4x12 hours), 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM
  • Hours per Week: 48
  • Schedule Options: 3x12 or 4x12 shifts available
  • On-Call: 36 hours every 6 weeks
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend or 2 weekends per month
  • Nurse-Patient Ratio: 1:2
  • Float Requirement: Yes
  • Holiday Time Off: Not accommodated during major holidays (e.g., Valentine's Day, Easter, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s Day). Requests can be discussed onsite after arrival.

Required Certifications

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or ARC accepted
  • AWHONN Intermediate (for Electronic Fetal Monitoring)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or ARC accepted
  • NIHSS (NIH Stroke Scale)
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)

Certifications must be current and may not expire within 45 days of assignment start. Actual certificates required; screenshots or photos are not accepted.


Required Competencies

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam
  • Color Blind Testing (Ishihara test or equivalent within 12 months)
  • Competency Exam (annual update required)
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (required for all RNs except L&D, Psych, LTC, Mother-Baby/Couplet Care/Post Partum, Transitional Care)
  • Core Competencies Part I, II, and III (annual update required, minimum 80% pass rate)

Required Licenses and Experience

  • Valid RN license in Tennessee
  • Minimum 1 year of Labor and Delivery experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Health and Background Requirements

  • Physical exam within 12 months prior to start, signed by MD, DO, NP, APRN, or PA (fit for duty)
  • Negative TB test (QGold or Skin Test) within 1 year; T-spot tests not accepted
  • TB Questionnaire required
  • Immunizations/vaccinations:
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) - 2 vaccines or positive titer
    • Hepatitis B series, titer, or declination
    • Varicella - 2 vaccines or positive titer
    • Flu vaccine required for starts between September 1 and April 1 (no declinations accepted; exemptions only for medical or religious reasons)
  • Drug screening within 45 days of start (specific panel required, MRO signature required)
  • Background check within 45 days of start, including 7-year history and multiple federal/state registries
  • Two supervisory references from the past 3 years
  • Employment application with 7-year work history and no unexplained gaps over 30 days
  • Unit-specific skills checklist updated within the last year

Additional Facility Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license or state ID (color copy, current)
  • Passport-style photo with solid background (no filters or facial piercings) for badge
  • Utility bill, mortgage statement, or lease matching RN license address, located more than 75 miles from contracted facility
  • Completion of onboarding attestation and review of facility-specific documents

  • Travelers requesting time off during specified holidays will not be accommodated but may discuss after arrival.
  • Actual certification documents must be uploaded; photos or screenshots are not accepted.
  • All documentation must have consistent personal information (DOB, SSN) matching candidate records.
  • Flu vaccine exemptions require agency-approved medical or religious documentation.
