Registered Nurse – CVPICU (Pediatric ICU / Cardiovascular)

Location: Madison, Wisconsin
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night shift, 12-hour shifts (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM), Monday through Friday with every other weekend and some holidays required
Hours per Week: 48

Job Description

• Provide nursing care in a high acuity Pediatric ICU with cardiovascular focus.
• Strong Pediatric ICU experience required.
• At least 1 year of cardiovascular (CV) experience required.
• EPIC electronic health record experience required.
• Telemetry test must be passed prior to start.

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Wisconsin
• Minimum 1 year of CVPICU experience within the last year
• Experience working with Pediatric patients
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• American Heart Association (AHA) Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification
• Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Testing & Competencies

• Must pass Pediatric Telemetry Test (for Pediatric Department RNs) through the facility’s LMS system before starting.
• Telemetry test requires:

  • 80% overall score
  • 100% in lethal rhythms subcategory
• Candidates have up to 3 attempts with remediation required after 2nd failed attempt. Failure after 3 attempts results in contract cancellation.

Background & Compliance Requirements

• Background check within 90 days prior to start, including all locations lived/worked/schooled in the past 7 years.
• Wisconsin Caregiver Screening required within 90 days of start.
• Education verification as applicable.
• Drug screening required per standard clinical candidate protocols.
• Completion of Wisconsin BID Form (state-mandated).
• References: 2 clinical references within the last 3 years (Aya standard).

Health & Immunization Requirements

• Proof of Tdap vaccination (one dose from adulthood; 10-year update not mandatory).
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray per facility guidelines.
• MMR: 2 doses or positive titers; medical or religious exemptions accepted with proper documentation.
• Varicella: 2 doses or positive titer; medical or religious exemptions accepted.
• Hepatitis B vaccination series or documented declination form.
• Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually during flu season.
• Other vaccines or declinations as applicable (e.g., Meningococcal for certain departments).

Additional Facility Requirements

• Photo for badge (passport-style, no selfies or headwear except religious/medical).
• Signed acknowledgment of orientation safety manual.
• Completion of required facility-specific forms (e.g., communicable disease form).
• Employment application and annual skills checklist required.

Notes

• Strong level II experience may be considered in lieu of some requirements.
• The position involves working in a high-acuity pediatric cardiovascular intensive care environment.
• The role requires adherence to strict testing and compliance standards to maintain facility and agency requirements.
