Registered Nurse – MS/Telemetry (Travel/Contract)
Location: Lees Summit, Missouri
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 18:45–7:15)
Guaranteed Hours: Minimum 3 shifts per 13-week period
Facility Type: Community Hospital (240 beds, including 16-bed ICU)
Job Overview
- Position on a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5
- Weekend requirement: 8 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule period (Friday/Saturday/Sunday combination)
- Floating required within scope to other departments, units, or facilities as needed
- Holiday shifts and Charge RN assignments as needed
- No on-call required
- Home address must be at least 75 miles from the facility (locals not accepted)
- No block scheduling accommodation

Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Missouri
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum 2 years of experience in Progressive Care Unit (PCU) nursing, with PCU experience within the last year
- Experience in Med Surg and Telemetry nursing
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Clinical skills including:
- Post cardiac angiogram care
- Post myocardial infarction (MI) care
- Pre/post cardiac catheterization care
- Pre/post hemodialysis management and renal failure care
- Patient-controlled analgesia (PCA) management
- Cerebrovascular accident (CVA) care
- Chest tube management (Emerson/Pleur-evac)
- External CPAP/BIPAP use
- High flow nasal cannula (HFNC) management
- Tracheostomy management
- Femoral line and groin site management
Compliance and Background Requirements
- Government-issued ID required (driver’s license mandatory for home health roles)
- Criminal background check within 6 months, including statewide and nationwide searches, sex offender registry, and international searches if applicable
- Quarterly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks
- Education verification of highest nursing degree required before start
- Fingerprinting required for assignments involving long-term care or rehab units in Illinois
- Missouri-specific background checks including Family Care Safety Registry, EDL, and Highway Patrol checks (renewed annually)
- Illinois-specific exclusion list and provider sanctions checks (renewed quarterly)
- Drug testing within 1 year of start, including a comprehensive panel (amphetamines, benzodiazepines, cocaine, opiates, etc.)
- Two professional references required (supervisors preferred)
- Employment application and unit-specific skills checklist required within 1 year of start
Health and Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Annual fit mask (N95) testing required; must be able to pass fit test or complete quantitative testing if failed
- Tdap vaccine or declination required (expires every 10 years)
- Negative TB screening (2-step PPD or equivalent) within 1 year of start; chest x-ray and questionnaire if history of positive TB
- Measles, mumps, rubella, and varicella immunity required (positive titer, vaccination, or MD statement) with boosters or declination as applicable
- Seasonal flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Sept 30 – April 1)
- Hepatitis B declination required (not mandatory to vaccinate)
Facility-Specific Documents and Policies
- Badge photo (head and shoulders, white background, no obstructions, taken within 6 months)
- HIPAA acknowledgement, confidentiality form, latex allergy questionnaire, hand hygiene, fingernail, and dress code policies must be reviewed and signed prior to start
- Regulatory compliance education and orientation modules completed annually via online platform (approx. 16 hours)
- Healthstream modules including Epic, glucose meter, and infusion pump training required before start
- TB questionnaire and Hep B declination must be updated annually
- Personal or auto insurance required for driving positions
Additional Notes
- No prior travel experience required
- Return to work restrictions: no more than 7 days off before returning
- Cancelled shifts must be the regular shift length to which the nurse is assigned
- No on-call or block schedule accommodations
- Floating between units and facilities is expected as part of the role
This position offers an opportunity to work in a community hospital setting with a focus on telemetry and progressive care nursing, requiring strong clinical skills in cardiac, respiratory, neurological, and renal care, along with flexibility to float across units.
