Shift Details
- Night shift, 3 shifts per week
- Shift hours: 18:45 to 7:15 (12-hour shifts)
- Total hours per week: 36
Unit and Patient Care
- PCU (Progressive Care Unit) with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5
- Daily census approximately 30 patients in 30 rooms
- Intermediate level of care including stroke, heart failure, respiratory failure, pneumonia, GI bleeding, syncope, TIA, falls, COVID, flu, C. diff, post-surgical patients requiring higher level monitoring, renal failure, cardiac drips, and heparin protocols
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Missouri
- Minimum 2 years of Med Surg / Telemetry nursing experience
- Med Surg / Telemetry experience within the last year
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Prior Travel Experience
- Not required; first-time travelers accepted
Weekend and Floating Requirements
- 8 weekend shifts required within a 6-week schedule period (Friday, Saturday, Sunday combination)
- Floating between departments, units, and facilities within scope of practice is required
Licensure and Certifications
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) preferred but not mandatory
- Other certifications may be required based on unit specifics (e.g., MAB, CPI, PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM) — verify per unit
Skills and Competencies Required
- Experience in Medical-Surgical/Telemetry, Telemetry, Cardiac Telemetry settings
- Cardiac monitoring and emergency response skills including dysrhythmia interpretation and management
- Use of Rapid Response Teams
- Gastrointestinal care including feeding tube management
- Renal care including pre/post hemodialysis management and renal failure
- IV therapy and phlebotomy skills: blood product administration, central line, peripheral line, PICC line management, and IV starts
- Medication management: heparin protocols, cardiac drips (no titration)
- Neurological/psychiatric care: CVA, pre/post neurosurgery
- Respiratory care: high flow nasal cannula, ABG interpretation, oxygen delivery devices, non-invasive airway management
- Wound care and isolation precautions
- Surgical drain management
Preferred Skills (Not mandatory)
- ER holding, Neuro stepdown, PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown experience
- Accessing ports for IV therapy
- Management of vasoactive drips (no titration), PCA
- Traumatic brain injury care
- Orthopedic trauma and total joint replacements
- Chest tubes, external CPAP/BIPAP, tracheostomy management
Schedule and Work Conditions
- No on-call required
- No block scheduling accommodation
- Must be at least 75 miles from the facility (locals not accepted)
- Return-to-Office (RTO) restrictions: no more than 7 days
- Guaranteed minimum of 3 shifts per 13 weeks (cancelled shifts must be full length)
Documentation and Compliance Requirements
- Government-issued ID required (e.g., driver’s license or state ID)
- Criminal background check within 6 months, including statewide and nationwide searches
- Education verification of highest nursing degree required before start
- Professional license primary source verification (NURSYS for Missouri)
- Drug testing within 1 year of start, including a comprehensive panel (amphetamines, benzodiazepines, cocaine, opiates, etc.)
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Fit mask (N95) testing required annually; must be able to pass fit test
- Immunizations and titers required or declinations accepted for:
- Tdap (or Td for renewal)
- TB testing (2-step PPD or equivalent)
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR)
- Varicella
- Seasonal flu vaccine or approved exemption (required during flu season)
- Background checks including EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG quarterly updates
- Facility-specific documents including HIPAA acknowledgement, confidentiality form, latex allergy questionnaire, hand hygiene, fingernail, and dress code policies must be completed prior to start
- Unit-specific competency exams and skills checklists required annually
- Two professional references required (supervisors preferred within last year)
- Employment application must be submitted and approved before start
- Charting system used: EPIC
Additional Notes
- Floating between units and departments is a regular expectation
- Holiday shifts and charge nurse assignments may be required as needed
- Candidates must be prepared to work in a fast-paced environment with a wide variety of patient conditions
- Candidates must adhere to all facility policies and complete required orientation and training modules prior to start
This position is ideal for a Registered Nurse with at least 2 years of experience in telemetry or progressive care settings who is comfortable with floating and weekend shifts, and who meets the licensure and certification requirements. First-time travel nurses are welcome to apply.
