Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical (Travel/Contract)
Location: New London, Connecticut
Shift: Nights, 4 shifts per week, 12 hours each (6:45 PM – 7:15 AM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
- Provide nursing care on a Medical Surgical unit in a short-term acute care hospital, Level III trauma center.
- Float to other units as needed.
- Work every other weekend.
- Charting system: Epic.
- Facility has 252 staffed beds.
- Free parking available.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Connecticut.
- Minimum of 2 years of Medical Surgical nursing experience, with at least some experience within the last year.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC).
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
Certifications & Training Requirements
- Basic Life Support (BLS) – AHA or ARC.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – AHA or ARC (check unit requirements).
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certifications required only if assigned to pediatric or NICU units.
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) required for Emergency Room units; preferred for Pediatric ER.
- Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) training required for Behavioral Health units; preferred for ER.
- NIH Stroke Certification required for all RNs except Behavioral Health, Case Management, Home Health, OR, Pediatric units, NICU, Labor and Delivery.
- Various facility-specific training modules and attestations (e.g., Dysphagia Screening, Stroke Education, CLABSI Prevention, Pressure Injury Prevention, Patient Transportation with Oxygen, Pyxis MedStation, Baxter Pump Interoperability, Patient Bedside Rounding, Ventricular Assist Device Awareness, Blood Administration, New Employee Orientation, 21st Century Cures Act, ED Handbook, eCart Training, Chaperone Policy, Fire Safety). These must be reviewed and signed prior to or shortly after start.
- Language Services Training, CAUTI Education Training, and Suicide Risk and Environmental Assessment Training may be required depending on unit assignment.
