Registered Nurse – MS/Telemetry Unit
Location: Rochester, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Overview
- Provide nursing care on a Medical-Surgical/Telemetry unit specializing in cardiac patients.
- Patient ratios:
- Day/Evening shifts: 5:1 (may stretch to 6-7:1)
- Night shifts: 6-7:1 (may stretch to 8-10:1 if staff calls in)
- Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) assist with vital signs, blood glucose checks, EKGs, and activities of daily living.
- Must float within scope to similar units as needed.
- Weekend work required every other weekend (EOW).
- Block scheduling may be accommodated but is not guaranteed.
- No local candidates accepted within a 75-mile radius.
- No pending licenses accepted.
- Return-to-Office (RTO) restrictions: maximum 1 week RTO allowed during contract.
Required Qualifications
- License: Valid RN license in New York.
- Education: Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing.
- Experience: Med Surg / Telemetry (1 year of experience) and Med Surg / Telemetry experience within the last year.
- Certifications: BLS issued by American Heart Association.
- NIHSS.
Clinical Skills & Special Requirements
- Interpretation and management of cardiac dysrhythmias.
- Use of Rapid Response Teams.
- Peripheral line care and management.
- Oxygen delivery devices: nasal cannula, oxygen face masks, portable oxygen tanks.
- Non-invasive airway management.
- Adherence to isolation precautions.
Shift Details
- Night shift only: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM).
- Total hours per week: 36.
Documentation & Compliance Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID required.
- 7-year criminal background check (including felony, sex offender, SSN trace, education verification).
- Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks.
- Education verification from primary source required; foreign equivalency evaluations accepted if applicable.
- Primary source verification of RN license within 30 days of start.
- NURSYS verification required within 30 days.
- Orientation safety manual acknowledgement required.
- Facility-specific onboarding documents and attestations must be completed.
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, updated annually.
- Fit mask test (N95 or equivalent) within 1 year of start.
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year of start; TB questionnaire accepted in lieu of annual renewal.
- Required immunizations or proof of immunity: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella. Age exemptions apply if born before 1957.
- Drug screening within 30 days of start, including testing for amphetamines, cocaine, fentanyl, heroin, opiates, and others.
- Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination required during flu season.
- Snellen eye exam within 1 year of start.
- Color blindness testing required.
- Medication test/pharmacology competency exam as required by specialty.
- Skills checklist and work history verification required.
Electronic Health Record & Uniform
- Charting system: Epic (preferred).
- Scrub colors: Any combination of navy and white.
Additional Notes
- Candidates must complete all health-related requirements and lab work within 5 days of signing the contract.
- Fingerprinting and additional background checks may be required if assigned to mental health, behavioral health, home health aide, or long-term care units.
- References required for direct hire candidates (2 references within last 3 years).
This position offers an opportunity to work in a specialized cardiac telemetry environment with a supportive team including PCTs, focusing on high-quality patient care and professional development.
