Description
Perfusionist Travel/Contract Job – New Orleans, Louisiana
Position Overview
- Employment Type: Travel/Contract
- Location: New Orleans, LA
- Shift: Day shift, 5 days a week, 8 hours per day (6:30 AM – 3:00 PM)
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Call: Weekdays and weekends on rotation
- Unit may assign you to an Emergency Team during events, requiring you to stay onsite or be part of relief efforts as directed by your unit manager.
Job Responsibilities
- Conduct adult cardiopulmonary bypass procedures
- Provide ventricular assist support
- Provide Intra Aortic Balloon Pump support
- Conduct Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO)
- Perform autotransfusion and physiological monitoring
- Manage hemofiltration including acute dialysis
- Operate various blood analyzers and ex-vivo organ systems
Required Qualifications
- Valid Perfusionist license in Louisiana
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a Perfusionist, including experience within the last year
- Completion of a formal training program in Extracorporeal Technology
Required Certifications
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA or RQI accepted; must be current at start
- BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA or RQI accepted; must be current at start
Health and Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 12 months prior to start, indicating good health
- Fit mask testing (N95) within 1 year of start; onsite fit testing available if needed
- Negative TB test (PPD, Qgold, or Tspot) within 12 months; annual updates required
- Immunity or vaccination documentation for:
- Measles (Rubeola)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B
- Varicella
- Tdap vaccine required only for select departments (not applicable here)
- Seasonal flu vaccination, declination, or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 – Mar 31)
Additional Requirements
- Resume/application with 7 years of employment history and explanation for any gaps
- Skills checklist updated annually
- Color passport-style photo (no filters or obstructions) taken within last 6 months, uploaded within 24 hours of booking
- Competency exam specific to specialty, completed within 1 year prior to start, minimum 80% score, updated annually
- Compliance with facility-specific emergency preparedness protocols during hurricane season (June 1 – Nov 30)

- First-time travelers are accepted for this role.
- Prior travel experience is not required.
- Candidates must be comfortable with potential emergency team assignments and extended onsite presence during emergency events.
- All license and certification renewals must be completed prior to start date if expiring within 30 days of start.
