Job Opportunity: Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) - Travel/Contract
Location
- New Haven, Connecticut
Position Details
- Employment Type: Travel/Contract
- Shift: Night shift, 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM, 3 shifts of 12 hours each per week (36 hours/week)
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Floating required between two nearby campuses (within walking distance, shared parking and shuttle available)
- Weekend Requirement: Work every other weekend
- No self-scheduling or special scheduling accommodations; schedules assigned based on unit staffing needs
Job Description
- Provide respiratory therapy services primarily in trauma and adult critical care ventilator settings
- Must have trauma experience and adult critical care ventilator experience (required)
- Preferred experience: Extra Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO), Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), Pediatrics
- Preferred experience with Hamilton C6 ventilators
Required Qualifications
- Valid Respiratory Therapist license in Connecticut
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a Respiratory Therapist
- Respiratory Therapist experience within the last year
- Experience working with adult patients
- Adult critical care ventilator experience
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

- Total Staffed Beds: 1,567
- Electronic Health Record system: Epic
Compliance and Documentation Requirements
- Valid state driver’s license or state ID with photo matching legal name
- Background checks including 7-year criminal history, sex offender registry, federal and state checks, education verification, and others as required
- Primary source verification of state respiratory therapy license within 30 days of start; if not licensed in Connecticut, must apply within 72 hours of start
- Physical exam within 12 months of start
- Fit mask test (N95 or equivalent) within 12 months, updated annually; must be clean shaven for fit testing
- 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start
- Tuberculosis screening: Negative T-Spot or QGold within 6 months, or 2 PPDs within 12 months; chest x-ray and questionnaire if positive history
- Required vaccinations or proof of immunity: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (or declination), Tdap (highly preferred for certain specialties)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (September 1 - March 31)
- COVID-19 vaccination series preferred
Training and Competency Requirements
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (minimum 85% score)
- Color blindness test (minimum 80% score), required for all candidates starting on or after 8/2/2024
- Various facility-specific training modules and attestations including but not limited to:
- Language Services Training
- CAUTI Education Training (except PICU, NICU, Psychiatry/Behavioral Health)
- Suicide Risk and Environmental Assessment Training
- Mobile Heartbeat Alarm Module (exemptions apply)
- Stroke Education (exemptions apply)
- CLABSI Prevention Training (exemptions apply)
- Preventing Pressure Injury Training (exemptions apply)
- Patient Transportation with Oxygen Education (exemptions apply)
- Pyxis ES MedStation Training (exemptions apply)
- Baxter Pump Interoperability Training
- Patient Bedside Rounding (exemptions apply)
- Ventricular Assist Device Awareness (exemptions apply)
- Blood Administration Module (annual update required; exemptions apply)
- New Employee Orientation Module
- 21st Century Cures Act Module (required for RRT)
- Fire Safety Module (effective 5/4/2026)
- Chaperone Policy Training (effective 5/31/2024)
- EPIC testing or training (optional but highly encouraged for those with Epic experience)

- Must provide a 7-year work history with no gaps greater than 90 days
- Verification of employment for the last 7 years required
- One supervisor reference within the past year required for ICU assignments (charge nurse references not accepted)
- Skills checklist required within 12 months of start
