NICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Job - Madison, Wisconsin


Job Details

  • Position: NICU Registered Nurse
  • Location: Madison, Wisconsin
  • Employment Type: Travel/Contract
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Shift: 12-hour shifts (Day: 7:00 AM - 7:30 PM / Night: 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
  • Schedule: Monday through Friday, with 2-3 weekends required per 6-week scheduling period
  • Hours per Week: 36 hours

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Wisconsin
  • Minimum 2 years of Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) experience, including experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
  • Experience with post-operative patients
  • Experience managing gastrostomy tubes (g-tubes)
  • Experience with tracheostomy and ventilator management
  • Experience with various modes of invasive and noninvasive ventilation

Required Licenses & Certifications

  • Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in Wisconsin
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - American Heart Association (AHA) only
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - AHA only

Required Compliance & Documentation

  • Background Check: Within 90 days prior to start, including SSN trace, counties, and nationwide sex offender search
  • Wisconsin Caregiver Screening: Required within 90 days of start
  • Education Verification: RN program completion verification required
  • References: 2 clinical references within the last 3 years (Aya standard)
  • Employment Application: Required for all candidates
  • Skills Checklist: Annual requirement

Required Health & Immunization Documents

  • Physical Exam: Must be collected within 1 year (Aya standard)
  • TB Testing: Negative IGRA blood test within 12 months or two-step skin test as per facility guidelines
  • TB Questionnaire: Required for all candidates and updated annually
  • Vaccinations:
    • Tdap (one adult dose required)
    • MMR (2 doses or positive titers; medical/religious exemptions allowed)
    • Varicella (2 doses or positive titer; history of chickenpox not accepted)
    • Hepatitis B vaccination series or declination form (required for direct patient care)
    • Flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption (required annually during flu season)
  • Drug Testing: Required per Aya standard for clinical candidates

Facility-Specific Testing & Training

  • Pediatric Telemetry Test: Required for all inpatient pediatric units including NICU; must be completed through the facility’s LMS system prior to start
  • Adult Telemetry Test: Required for applicable adult specialties if assigned
  • Rhythm Interpretation Course: Required only if remediation is needed after failed telemetry tests

Additional Requirements

  • Photo for Badge: Passport-style photo required prior to start (no selfies, headwear except for religious/medical reasons, solid background)
  • Acknowledgement of Safety Manual and Pass/Fail Testing: Required as part of orientation and ongoing compliance
  • E-Verify: Required per standard policy
  • Monthly Monitoring: EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required upon hire and monthly thereafter

Notes

  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position.
  • Candidates must be prepared to work both day and night shifts with weekend coverage as scheduled.
