Description
Travel Registered Nurse – Outpatient Surgery
Location: Bethpage, New York
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 3 months) with potential extension
Schedule:
- Monday to Friday
- 7:30 AM – 3:30 PM
- 37.5 hours per week (5 shifts of 7.5 hours)
- No weekends or rotating shifts required
Unit Overview
- Ambulatory Operating Room setting
- Average daily census: 14 adult and geriatric patients
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:5
- Communication method: SBAR
- Operating Rooms: 1
Required Qualifications
Licensure & Certifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
Education
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Experience
- Minimum 1 year of experience in Outpatient Surgery within the last year
- Experience in an outpatient setting
- Experience with urology procedures including circumcisions, cystoscopies, and vasectomies
- First Assist experience
Health and Compliance Requirements
- General physical exam clearance within 1 year, updated annually
- Fit test for N95 masks within 1 year, updated annually
- TDAP vaccine within 10 years of start
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- Required immunization titers or vaccinations for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Varicella
- Hepatitis B positive titer or declination form required
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required by November 1
- Drug screening per standard 9-panel test within 1 year (not required for subcontractors)
Background and Verification
- Criminal background check within 30 days of start, including 7-year social security trace and state-specific searches
- Education verification confirming nursing degree
- Verification of all current and previous employment within last 7 years
- Two manager/supervisor references required (charge nurse references generally not accepted)
- Online license verification within 30 days of start, re-verified after any break in service of 30+ days
Competency and Training Requirements
- Unit-specific competency exams completed on Relias platform, including:
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (pass/fail, with remediation process)
- Core Part I, II, and III annual training modules
- OSHA mandatory training annually
- Color blind testing (100% score required)
- Harassment prevention training certificate (New York specific)
- HIPAA acknowledgment and other facility-specific policy acknowledgments required
- Orientation safety manual acknowledgment
Additional Facility-Specific Requirements
- Photo for badge (color, plain background, recent, no filters) submitted within 72 hours of contract signing
- Completion and signing of various facility-specific documents including:
- Privacy, Information Security & Confidentiality Agreement
- Drug-Free Workplace Policy
- Intellectual Property Agreement
- Quality, Regulatory, and Safety Practices acknowledgment
- New Beginnings Packet acknowledgment (staff handbook and code of conduct)
- Establishment of system username and password prior to orientation
