Job Opportunity: Critical Care Float Nurse
Location: Madison, Wisconsin
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Work Schedule
- Night shifts, 3 shifts per week
- 12-hour shifts (1900-0730)
- Every other weekend and some holidays required
Unit Experience
- Experience with multiple ICU units including:
- Neuro ICU
- Cardiothoracic ICU
- Burn ICU
- Trauma Surgery ICU
- Experience with IMC/Progressive and General Care populations
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Wisconsin
- Minimum 1 year of Critical Care Float experience within the last year
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by American Heart Association
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification issued by American Heart Association
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Experience with IMC/Progressive/General care populations
- Neuro ICU experience
- Burn ICU experience
- Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit (CTICU) experience
- Trauma ICU experience
- Intermediate Care experience
Testing and Competency Requirements
- Telemetry Pass/Fail Testing (EKG/Medication) required before start and annually thereafter
- Telemetry test must meet strict passing criteria (80% overall, 100% lethal rhythms subcategory)
- Candidates allowed up to 3 attempts with remediation after 2nd failure
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam as applicable
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement required
Background and Compliance Requirements
- Background check within 90 days prior to start, including:
- Social Security Number trace
- Nationwide sex offender check
- Review of all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
- Background review required for any pending or convicted criminal charges (excluding traffic violations)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required upon hire and monthly thereafter
- Wisconsin Caregiver Screening and BID Form required within 90 days of start
- Employment application and 2 clinical references within last 3 years required
- Annual skills checklist required
Health and Immunization Requirements
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within required timeframes; TB questionnaire updated annually
- Proof of immunity or vaccination for:
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) – 2 doses or positive titers
- Varicella – 2 doses or positive titer (history of chickenpox not accepted)
- Hepatitis B vaccination series with positive titer or signed declination form
- Seasonal Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption (required annually during flu season)
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination proof required
- Meningococcal vaccine or declination required if working in Microbiology (not typical for this role)
- Drug screening required per clinical standards
Documentation and Facility-Specific Requirements
- Passport-style photo for badge (no selfies, no headwear except religious/medical)
- Completion of communicable disease form within 90 days of start
- Medical or religious exemption forms for vaccines must be approved as specified
- Education verification as applicable (RN degree verification standard)
- State license primary source verification within 30 days of start and upon expiration
- NURSYS verification within 30 days of start
- Signed acknowledgment of pass/fail telemetry testing
Additional Notes
- Physical exam not required by facility but collected to meet agency standards
- Fit mask testing completed onsite; no copy required
- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position
