Job Opportunity: Critical Care Float Nurse
Location: Madison, Wisconsin
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Work Schedule
- Day/Evening shifts, 8 or 12 hours (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM)
- Every other weekend and some holidays required
- Typical weekly hours: 36
Unit Experience
- Experience with multiple ICU units including:
- Neuro ICU
- Cardiothoracic ICU
- Burn ICU
- Trauma Surgery ICU
- Experience with IMC/Progressive and General Care populations
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Wisconsin
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum of 1 year of Critical Care Float experience within the last year
- Float experience across multiple ICU specialties
- Neuro ICU experience
- Burn ICU experience
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA)
Compliance and Documentation Requirements
- Background check within 90 days prior to start, including:
- Social Security Number trace
- County and nationwide searches
- Sex offender registry
- Review of any pending or convicted criminal charges (excluding traffic violations)
- Wisconsin BID Form and Caregiver Screening required within 90 days of start
- Education verification as applicable
- Drug screening per clinical standards
- Physical exam (to meet agency standard, not facility required)
- Immunizations and health documents:
- TB test or chest X-ray (with specific timing and follow-up if positive)
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titers, with medical/religious exemptions accepted
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer, with exemptions accepted
- Hepatitis B vaccination series or declination form if declining
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption (required annually during flu season)
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination proof (if applicable)
- Meningococcal vaccine or declination (if working in Microbiology)
Testing and Competency Exams
- Telemetry Pass/Fail Testing (EKG/Medication) required before start and annually thereafter
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exams as applicable
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement required annually
- Acknowledgement of Pass/Fail Testing for Telemetry exams required
Additional Notes
- Photo for badge must meet specific guidelines (passport-style, no selfies, solid background, no headwear except for religious/medical reasons)
- References: 2 clinical references within the last 3 years required (agency standard)
