PCU Registered Nurse
Overview
- Travel/contract role in Potsdam, New York
- Night shift: 4x12 hours, 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM
- Contract length: 13 weeks
- 12-hour orientation
- Local candidates are not accepted; must live more than 50 miles away
Unit Details
- Mixed-acuity PCU / MS Tele / medical-surgical unit
- Patient population includes PCU and MS Tele, surgical pre- and post-op, ENT, general surgery, trauma surgery, ortho surgery, overflow medical patients, and rare pediatric patients
- Travelers are not assigned to pediatric patients unless experienced
- Float to sister units as needed
- Weekend requirement: every other weekend
- RTO maximum: 7 days
Required Qualifications
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Valid RN license in New York
- PCU - Progressive Care Unit (1 year of experience)
- PCU - Progressive Care Unit experience within the last year
- ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support issued by American Heart Association
- BLS - Basic Life Support issued by American Heart Association
- NIHSS
Preferred Qualifications
- PALS
- TCAR
Key Skills
- Telemetry and dysrhythmia interpretation/management
- PCU / DOU / IMC / stepdown care
- IV insulin protocols and insulin drip titration
- Cardiac drip management and titration
- Central line, PICC, port, and peripheral IV care
- Blood product administration
- Heparin protocols
- Chest tubes, tracheostomy management, HFNC, CPAP/BIPAP, and non-invasive airway management
- Wound care and wound vacs
- Seizure, CVA, substance withdrawal, ortho trauma, and post-MI care
Compliance and Onboarding
- Government-issued photo ID required
- Background check, education verification, and work history verification required
- Drug screening required
- Physical exam, fit test, TB screening, immunization records, and eye exam required
- Flu vaccination or signed declination required during flu season
- Modules and facility acknowledgements required before start
